LOL, on the random questions being a “featured thread” @skieurope - I just posted something in the random questions thread (debate in our house about short sleeved button down shirts vs rolling up sleeves on long sleeved shirts for men). Maybe it bumped up as a new post?
And what’s your vote? Only one person in our family is ok with short sleeved button down shirts (not talking polos- that’s different) and its not me! Need more feedback from males.
Why is it necessary to post the names and points of the most active for the week. Really? I am only one of the most active because of this lousy upgrade. I don’t need or want badges or acknowledgement to show my posting history.
I agree @CottonTales . This thread is for complaining about the myriad of issues with the new format providing helpful suggestions for tweaking the new format and the random questions thread is for ongoing parent conversation. Check.
Agree. But the problem is that 99% of the time I have available is on my phone (commuting, during lunch at work, waiting at a restaurant, etc). I haven’t come to the site at all for a few days except to check this thread for any ray of hope that this is going to be fixed or rolled back or something. It is unusable on a phone to casually surf, or even easily check the forums I like to make sure I’m providing input to.
Just to be clear…this new format has not improved the mobile experience especially on mobile phones. So far as I can tell, there is no consistency across desktop, mobile and table formats either…with each having its own set of issues (and some overlap as well).
So…if the quote above was the intended outcome, and this is what Hobson’s paid to have done…they were led down a primrose path. This was not successful.
And that doesn’t even address the multiple issues presented in this thread. It just addresses what Sorin says was the intended outcome. Big fail.
I’ve only used this site a bit this spring but I had liked the forums and found some useful information and a supportive community. Just discovered the new format this evening and it’s a bust for me. (I’m on a laptop and can’t do any kind of a quick scan of new posts to a group of threads.)
I’m sorry to lose this resource but what I liked seems to be gone.
@MoonKnight The posters here who complain had long term experience with the prior format. It wasn’t that we loved the old format, per se, nor that we can’t adapt. Rather that it was inherently usable, worked for us- those of us looking to sweep through and focus on particular topics, then follow those conversations in an easily accessed way.
Not just about pretty or “not bad.” We could see more threads, find the most needed info more quickly, jump more directly to other forums. There’s some better design psychology in what we had before.
Eg, the list including Latest, Bookmarks, whatver was on the top left. Always. You just scrolled back up to the top and there it was, on the left. Likewise, if you wanted to reach the Reply box, you simply scrolled to the end. Now, scroll down and you land in the Recent Activity jungle. And we don’t ned R.A., it’s its own form of more ads. (Ads for other posts, probably not related AT ALL to our individual interests.) Plus, you can find recent posts in the master Latest Posts section.
