Our Fresh New Look Is Here

@CTTC Sorin was trying to fix my avatar that had a glitch on the homepage, and probably made a snafu when he asked me to resend the original photo to him via email. I am sure he or someone will fix it (Its probably the middle of the night right now where he is). I did not give it to him through CC , I sent it, per his request, through an email. That does NOT make it the property of CC. I am glad to see that you are using the crotch shot avatar. Love the silent protests

@jym626 Probably better to email Sorin, recognizing that today is Sunday. @“CC Admin” is, AFAIK, a bot, not a person.

Wow. Disaster.

Add me to the long list of folks less likely to visit this site. Shame because I now have an HS junior so I was planning on returning to the site more often in the near future.

Maybe the truth on the justification for this unpopular change was revealed in the prior posts but I won’t bother to look for it because this format change is painfully horrible. I’m sure the owners are rationalizing each negative comment in some manner of denial, but I’m seeing pages of bitter dissatisfaction. Actually I only saw the first ten and jumped to the end.

If the owners’ goal was fewer visits they have succeeded (at least where I’m concerned). I suspect the goal was more likely monetary and there time will tell…

@skieurope - I did email him but it’s probably the middle of the night, and thought (hoped) maybe there was another admin reading along here. Also don’t know who “controls” the “cc Admin” which I agree, I don’t think is human (which bodes the question…)

@CCadmin_Sorin - please see post #917 and change the admin avatar (and give me back mine!)

@CTTC where do you see those other “most” (helpful, active, etc.) leaderboards? I only see the “most active this month” one.

Well I decided to bookmark the one school forum I manage so at least I can get to that. Notifications is still flawed so keeping up with high activity threads will be a pain. I used to use latest posts as a way to venture out of the UCLA forum but now it’s too hard to scroll. So looks like this will be the only one I participate in for a bit, in addition to the school one.

Also others said that status of members was a blue box, Im seeing orange boxes.

What really bugs me most, is that when I click on "Walk through the key updates here. " You don’t actually get any information about what the updates are. Every time firefox updates, they tell me what they’ve done and why I’m going to love it. I’ve always used the site in a pretty rudimentary way (no email alerts, no going to latest posts) so that while some of the changes seem silly none were fatal. I do think it’s pretty ironic that the changes finally got me to install an ad-blocker and screen darkening capability. I’d been thinking about it for years.

Is it my imagination or is the font darker? It may just look darker with the pinkish background I have now.

Orange only for special people like you @10s4life - like Forum Champions.

I thought it looked darker today too.

Members are blue boxes. Mods / Forum Champions / Admin are orange boxes. Why? IDK.

The member box is blue on my ipad and computer, its grey with a dark outline on my phone

Here you go…

I am so glad I got the information I needed for our kid’s college experiences prior to this redesign. Navigation is practically unusable for me now. Even knowing where I want to go I can barely find forums. I don’t see an easy way on a forum to jump around to a different topic. It used to be relatively easy using the left navigation menu and Latest Posts to navigate around quickly. Initially I thought the excessive white space that mandates a ridiculous amount of scrolling was the issue, but it goes way beyond that. I’m sure egos won’t allow you to go back to the old design, but you should.

Just curious…what was the purpose in porting over the elections and politics section which hasn’t had a post since 2014…and those discussions are not permitted anymore anyway?

When you click on the Parents Cafe…the very top thing you see is that politics section…it’s right at the top. Silly.

@thumper1 I had been looking for that Colleges & Universities link you posted and couldn’t find it. Finally found an alternate way to get to the school forum I wanted to read. So your post got me going back and trying to figure out how you found it and/or why I missed it. By going back through the breadcrumbs at the top of each page, I finally found the link, but I had to scroll down 3-4 pages to see it. If something is that far down, i usually won’t see it. That link used to be in the left navigation section near the top of every page. White space can make some things easier to read, but not in the case of this site’s redesign.

Wonder if the amount of posters/posting has gone down since the site re-do. I find it very offputting, and like most web users, have been through my fair share of Forum facelifts. This is the worst that I can recall.

Free Jym’s avatar!

Another strange question… most of the time when forums … like this … have gone through “upgrades / updates / etc” they have added the functionality to add a photo. While I guess many CC posters don’t really need photos with their posts, there are some in the cafe that would be awesome.

I see the issues categorized like this:

  1. font/color/background … creates eye strain
  2. mobile functionality … IS NOT THERE.
  3. navigation issues - can’t easily navigate through the trees like you used to be able to do so. can’t easily find things.
  4. layout issues: too much white space. why are dates of posts at bottom of post? why are ads over top of content?
  5. agenda/forum content - feels like they are pushing blogs instead of the conversation based nature of the forums in the past.

I’m pretty sure the font has been darkened, no?
