I can’t find anything. Where are the parent forums? I used to be able to see all the threads so things were easy to find. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!
@asalomark click on “College Admissions and Search” and scroll down the list to find the Parents Forum.
It is weird because on my desktop the portion with this thread is all white. If I scroll down, I find “recent activity” which has grey borders making it (slightly) easier to read. Why don’t they put grey borders on all of the threads?
Done.
@austinmshauri can you provide a link for those of us that are new to Reddit? Thanks!
Is it really okay to advertise for another site here? I get it that people are upset that some of the changes made to this site have made it more difficult to be helpful or get the value out of it to which you’ve become accustomed. But doesn’t it make more sense to try and suggest positive changes to this site? If people can’t handle that, maybe they should just move on quietly.
@RandyErika - this thread is 71 pages of suggestions (well, not all positive, but that’s understandable) changes… Just sayin’
It would be nice if someone responded from CC corporate or at least put out a statement. Seriously this site won’t do well on just articles. Most of them aren’t that great tbh.
Or (entirely) accurate.
But doesn’t it make more sense to try and suggest positive changes to this site?
you are new to CC, and are unaware of how many times the owner has ignored all our suggestions, pleadings, etc etc when they make unasked for changes.
so for many of us- enough is enough.
When a forum champion is asking for the administration to respond that is a problem and sad.
before I too sign off, I have a question/ comment for @CCadmin_Sorin .
please ask TPTB WHY the parents forum is NOW found under College Admissions and Search, INSTEAD of under the College Confidential Community?? Where the College Confidential Cafe is located??? This makes NO sense whatsoever!!!
I understand posters’ frustrations with the changes but reddit is really a lot worse.
I’m still watching this thread and hoping things improve but I haven’t spent nearly as much time on the rest of the site as I used to. The scrolling drives me nuts and the large font gives me a headache. I’ve been on reddit for years for other topics and just subscribed to the ‘applying to college’ sub today. It will do the job for some of what CC provides but not all … reddit is good for quick advice but not so good for ongoing give-and-take threads.
I too am hoping for improvement with this site but not anticipating much unfortunately. Too much ego involved to admit this upgrade is a colossal mistake. I was definitely a newly minted fan of this site.
One issue for me is that College Admissions and Search is a dumping ground for so many of the forums which seemed to (appropriately) stand alone in the last version. Why would the parent cafe be listed under that heading for example? Why condense so many important forums under a generic title? Very non-intuitive for a newcomer (and veterans too). It’s as if the budget was cut in half so we now have the bargain basement version of CC.
I can’t even.
This is the first time I’ve ever seen a full 72 pages of every. single. poster. bashing a site redesign. and for good reason. Seriously, HOW WAS THIS A GOOD IDEA!?
Sorry, but this is awful. It is so much harder to find what I am looking for, and it is tough on the eyes.
I have to say that at this point the mom in me would say to any admin who decides to “update us” or give us a clue to that changes If any the future holds. “Sorry kid, too little too late.”
There has been a lot of disrespect to members here whether they have been here a month or a decade or more.
Sometimes you can’t go back. And sometimes you get soured and sort of don’t want to.
I feel like The Hunger Games. Holding up my two fingers in solidarity with the membership and against the powers that be whoever you are.
Simply move the post time and date to the top of the box.
Change or thicken to a bold version of the typeface.
Make a list in the home page to for most active forums and list them. One click to the forum will help at least. In the same section as recent posts and bookmarks. Easier for new and experienced alike. These three fixes are very doable. Intuitive.
Important forum link suggestions:
College admissions
College Search and Selection
Parents Forum
Parents Cafe
Chance me threads (for the kids lol)
“I understand this is a free site but i have to agree with many long time members that you destroyed what made CC popular and worth visiting daily.”
I agree. To me this seems to come down to whether the people who own this site are willing to admit that they goofed and go back to the old format, or will the site disappear for lack of participants. I have seen only a very small number of cases in my life where top management at any company was willing to admit that they had made a mistake and fix it. Oddly enough, of the companies that I have ever worked for, those are the companies that still exist.
If I were paid well to participate in this site then I might be able to find a way to work with the new format. As it is, life is too short.
