There was an old, old awareness that writing dumb things to Dear Abby/Ann Landers was a sorority prank for pledges. I always think of that when oopid threads crop up around fall/spring pledge times.
Both of whom I immediately banned, although they were reported before I saw them since I was actually in the midst of writing a very (in my mind) thoughtful post helping a legitimate user.
The good news is since we don’t recycle usernames, most variations of @SkiEuropeSucks have already been taken and banned.
Aside from the fact that Princeton (and the rest of the Ivy League), one would think that a simple Google search would have elicited a faster response.
I am NOT a fan of the new look. I can’t find things easily and am so disappointed, because I have another son that I still need to get through the process and I so appreciated the forums with my first son.
Still can’t find Parent Cafe or any of the threads I’d been enjoying.
This new format is simply unworkable for me on my iPhone. I give up.
Younger daughter is an excellent UX researcher. I think CC could use her services. The designer(s) of this format have no clue how real people use the site, obviously.
Why? Why change what was working? I hate the new look, the new font, the page layouts, everything. Wasted space everywhere I look. I have had CC on my favorites toolbar site 2004 (my 29 ad 31 YO sons still laugh about my addiction to CC), but unless it becomes easier to navigate, I won’t be visiting again.
I pointed out a user with a less than subtle sexually immature username and ridiculously perfect profile and story gaps on a hypsm chance me thread. Banned in minutes. Thanks mods.
Also I am not a fan of the format. But with a a little work you can find everything and a reasonable post will elicit lots of help. Don’t give up parents in need of advice. There’s not a great alternative to CC unless you want to walk into the Twitter like jungle of reddit. And the advicr there in the words of my nephew “basically sucks”.
For ease of use, I’ve been bookmarking the threads I am interested in. When they fizzle out, I will unbookmark them. It’s way easier than scrolling around.
I have pretty much figured out how to get around on this site, but it is very inefficient. And if one of the goals was to enhance the site across tablet, phone, computer…this is beyond a failure. Using this site on an IPhone is really difficult.
