Why are there other threads located below the reply box? If I go anywhere (back up the thread or page back) to look up anything I can’t just come back and scroll to the bottom to find the box. I have to scroll up and down to search the middle of the page for it.
I really really want a “save draft” option. And here is why. Sometimes I want to put links to info in my replies…and sometimes from multiple colleges. With the “safe draft” option…I could google one…and cut and paste…and save. Then google the next…and cut and paste and save.
Now, I have to edit…and sometimes I need to do something else and can’t get it all done in the 15 minute edit window.
Another frustrated Parent Cafe user. Been following this thread except when it kicks me to the beginning and doesn’t follow my page location even when I’ve been logged in. I view this on iOS phone all the time and feel the same frustration as others.
@skieurope — I don’t find the thread on reddit amusing. It strikes too close to home on many fronts. There are many comments on reddit that echo the same thoughts about elitism on CC. We do live in our own world at times.
And while we don’t want kids in some of our conversations, we don’t need to be in theirs all the time either.
Great moderation here has provided a safe environment for all of us to have civil conversations and get questions answered in a thoughtful way The moderation is a huge plus and key.
Young reddit users often are seeking solid advice which they can’t obtain from their peers on that forum. Nobody wants a snarky comment when they’re asking a serious question no matter their age. Which is why this forum has been so successful over so many years.
This site has had forums for high school, college, parents. Pick one or ten. It’s been great.
Can’t easily find a single forum now.
BUT I can look up that thread on Reddit you referenced in two seconds. Go figure. The figures.
I do the same thing @thumper1 does. I bookmark any threads I might be interested in following. My eyes just did not know where to look to determine if I had already posted on a thread, or if it’s a new thread.
Plus it’s the only way to find threads on various sub forums.
I agree - on my iPhone, even though I am logged in, it does not consistently take me to the latest unread post. Sometimes it works as expected, other times it brings me back to the top of the page where the last unread post is.
Super annoying to have to scroll down to search for where you last left off, the time/date being at the bottom instead of the top just makes it more difficult and even more aggravating.
Why does it not work consistently??? What kind of code does not give consistent results when you are doing the same thing??
To be fair, such posters were present before. Often, they were students in conflict with their parents, or parents trying to force their kids to do something, looking for support for their position, but they stop posting after presumably seeing most replies against their position.
This is different, @ucbalumnus. Sure there were always “hit and run” posers before, but now there seem to be many more, several with ridiculous or implausible topics (and several have already been removed). The forum has had cockroaches before, but this is an infestation.
^^^^ Also a reason why I avoid the “what are my chances” forums and refuse to answer chancing threads on the UCLA forum.
I like the older version better, words are too spread out and it’s too hard to read.
Well, it kind of looks fresh
but
I
am not too

how

it
is.
It feels …
inefficient.
Good points that everyone is making about slow times and argumentative teens joining. However, this is another example of something that doesn’t pass the sniff test.
A new poster - with 6 posts - registered June 29th - started the thread titles below.
Has not answered anything - just started the entire thread. It is either a plant trying to drive up activity or someone getting ready to write an article … Also, I don’t believe that any teenage would use the phrase “shaped your hs career” - which is another reason it seems funny to me.
“What did you learn out of the college applications process?”
“How has the admissions process shaped your high school career?”
“Essay Brainstorming”
“Best public university?”
“The Prettiest College Campus”
“What are the best schools for civil engineering?”
@lucyvanpelt I almost got sucked into answering one of those. Then I saw how many treads that poster had started and the subjects of them.
@taverngirl smart girl! I’ve gotten sucked in a few times and then go… huh?
Need some help - if I’m reading a thread and want to go back to the list of threads, how do I do this!? I’m on an iPhone and I used to have a back arrow at the top of my screen. When I hit the back arrow in the footer it takes me back a page in the current thread. What am I missing?
Ok…how do you UN bookmark a thread. You used to just click again on the bookmark thing…and it undid the bookmark. I just tried that…and it didn’t work.
ETA…I figured it out. You click on the little bookmark thing then you need to click on the thread name. Then it unbookmarks it but then takes you to the thread…so you need to exit out. Oh please…triple click work just to unbookmark. Who thought of this??
If threads would load to the last post I read instead of several posts back that would be great.

@rom828 on my iPhone (Safari browser) if I press and hold the back arrow (bottom left) it gives me a list of recent pages and I can select how far back I want to go. That’s a function of the browser, not this particular site… Similar to right clicking the back arrow on a desktop browser.
@O2BonCC well that trick with the back arrow is the most useful iPhone hack I’ve learned in a long time so thank you.
@lucyvanpelt - not sure who that poster is as I am on my phone (out watching the women’s soccer finals!) and it’s just too much of a pain to try to find them. But many of those thread topics, like prettiest campus, have been asked over and over and over. If it was a real poster, sure would be nice if they at least tried to search previous discussions.
Woot woot! 2-0 USA!
