Our Fresh New Look Is Here

@MaineLonghorn
I see your point, I guess this is a high volume site but all the mediators are unpaid voluntaries. Otherwise all those social web sites encourage users to upload pictures etc. such as Facebook.

Mediators…that could be the funniest typo I’ve ever read!

Not sure if I like the boldface with black or grey better. Maybe if the background was not this dirty dishwater color. Is there a way to lighten up the background color a bit? [/color=gray]**

voluntaries? That post has several amusing typos

@brantly. They didn’t even list Tufts on the list of the more elite LACs either. And I think every other NESCAC is listed. Tufts is only one 4 NESCACs around long enough to be one of the original 39 schools to create the NCAA. Don’t sweat it. Who the heck knows how they compiled that anyway. And who can even find it easily. No Tufts. USC. NYU. BC. Georgia Tech. UT. BU NEU Wake. These are some of the hottest tickets in town. How about the service academies or RISD or Julliard for the unique talents. Not to mentioned specific majors at many other schools being lights out and really tough admits for the vast vast vast majority of students.

Tufts is super elite. Everyone knows it. No worries. Not many people will be around to see that thread anyway.

** @brantly good luck with that one. Many have asked them to add USC as well for the last several years with no success. I know USC is one of those school’s people love to hate, so I found my peace with it long ago, ha.

But seriously, there are a lot of great schools as @privatebanker mentioned not on the list. I’ve always just ignored it, assuming it was a dinosaur list that was etched in stone, but now I don’t even know where find that thread anymore - so all good! **

I find that its ridiculous, in a ‘new forum’ to have to use HTML tags to do simple things like bold, underline, color and quoteback. Those things should be in the inline reply box. Duh. What happened to the smiley face emojis? I guess you can only use your own on the mobile device (right now I’m on a laptop - which is unusual for me - but can’t stand the scrolling… so no emojis for me!

@privatebanker I’m not worried if everyone knows it. I am curious about CC’s rationale. It’s just such an odd omission. Do the CC Gods know something about Tufts that the rest of us don’t, something that would warrant omitting this elite university from the “top/non-Ivy” list? I am thinking it may be a business-to-business spat. One clue is that after about four messages to CC via the Contact Us page, I’ve received zero response. They’re avoiding the subject, apparently.

It’s amusing that Tulane is included. Tulane is not an elite university. It’s a great university and it IS a hot ticket. But I don’t think the CC list is intended to highlight hot tickets.

I think they could simply add a few more links and include a few more schools. Including a tufts.

No reason to take Tulane off imho. They have a large cohort of elite level students professors results and history.

Heck Louisiana and that whole Deep South and southwest account for one school. That’s a little coastal bias.

But not looking to start slicing the old good great elite layers. It doesn’t matter that much in reality. The thread is a dinosaur and they aren’t changing it.

I’d settle for a new font and moving the date to the top of a post at this point.

As you realize, the list of top universities forum on CC is not related to the new forum changes. But hey, since this is the only thread I’ve been reading on CC for the past 3 weeks (my time on CC has gone WAYYYY down), I’ll comment on this subtopic. That list of “top universities” forum on CC goes far back since the early days of CC and has never changed and I get the idea it never will change,. I think it should be updated (if they are going to even have it at all). I’m REALLY not into rankings or “best” lists. But CC has always heavily had readers interested in rankings and heck, even has a separate forum for the Ivy League schools. So, if that is a slant here, the list of “top universities” really ought to include Tufts, USC, and NYU in my opinion (not to say to take off Tulane, but they have been more selective than Tulane for a longer period of time). And they are ranked higher in the “rankings” (yeah, I know, not into them but CC’s list is supposed to be “top universities”).

Bias alert: I’m a Tufts alum, my kid is an NYU alum, and well, USC is very selective, as are the other two.

OK, back to our regularly scheduled program: FIX THE FORUM!!!

There is a glitch I found while typing on my laptop. Perhaps this has been mentioned. After clicking “Go to Forums” I tried to type in the search box at the top. After typing just a couple of words, it becomes really small squiggles that I can’t read. I have to hit enter and then I can fix what I typed.

@Octagon I can’t replicate your problem on my laptop. I suggest trying to adjust your font size and see if that helps. Set your font to “actual size” if it isn’t already.

I had tried for MANY years to get USC listed on that list, ESPECIALLY after Tulane was added to the CC “top colleges” list 2 years ago.
Seriously??
Tulane is a U that attracts more students than USC? I don’t think so…
I think that elevation was unwarranted and was solely a tribute to , and a result of the death of a long time CC Moderator who moderated the Tulane forums.
Not a good enough reason to elevate Tulane to that list, IMHO.

@soozievt The reason I raised the issue here is because I assumed that the redesign would also include a reorganization of content. To me, it all goes together. @menloparkmom So, the top/non-Ivy list HAS changed since the inception of CC, with the addition of Tulane. I also get the feeling that Tufts was once on the list but was removed. Clue: Tufts has a defunct subforum (Tufts/[year]) that only the “listed” colleges and universities have.

@menloparkmom

You are probably right! Yet another example of the puzzling subjectivity and favoritism that can occur in CC.

Since the new format debuted 2 weeks ago, just how many suggestions by members here have been followed? Didn’t that video ad get removed pretty quickly? That seems to contradict the statement by Sorin that the CC tech people can’t change anything, they have to wait in line for changes to be done, etc. And I think there might have been another small tweak or two.

Any poster who is posting suggestions here is probably whistling in the wind. TPTB have spoken (through Sorin), and there will be no further changes made for an indeterminate length of time.

Seems like many of the oldtimers are still posting, but much less? And it strikes me as humorous that the most active thread is this one right here that is complaints. That’s why I expect Sorin will shut it down at some point for real. But for CC to have to give up our clicks and scrolls that get us here and reading the latest posts? That’s a dilemma for them! :stuck_out_tongue:

Tulane was on the top schools list as far back as I can remember, and way before Fallenchemist was a mod. It had nothing to do with “favoritism”. Let that go.

IIRC, way before the forum was sold off to other organizations, the admins (not the mods) had some control over schools that could be added, and IIRC there was discussion of adding some school but I dont think it was done. I think they did add a school to the general list (not top schools) but again can’t recall which.

I would vote for just having ALL colleges listed in the list if colleges…and no separate sections for “special” schools. My kid is a BU alum, and frankly, I don’t think NYU is any better than BU. Just ditch those separate sections, and list all the schools in the list of colleges.

Ah, but that is a “change” too…and we know that just won’t happen.

IIRC way back when, those categories were established by the traffic the schools got. Not 100% sure as it was a very long ago, but thats my vague recollection.

And I agree with @thumper1 - if it involves “change”, it isn’t going to happen.
