Why do most summer programs require candidates to be at least 16? I'm a sophomore who was hoping to apply to summer programs but I'm only going to be 15.

Why is the driving age 16?

It’s 15 in places like… Iowa. The world sucks.

dblazer, you got a point. But considering this is for summer programs, the only reason I can think of is perhaps 16 is the age requirement for boarding an airplane unaccompanied. With that said, the majority of airports let children much younger travel unsupervised so that’s redundant.

I wanted to do something productive with my summer and I’m having a hard time coming up with an idea since I’m too young for most summer programs. :/

Sucks for you guys. I’m 17.
Lol kidding but i always wondered this too…
What was the deciding factor in age privileges? Should they be updated now? I think the 15/16 year olds of today are a lot different then 10,20,25 etc years ago.
