I know that 19% of the student body at UNC-CH comprises of out of staters, but does anybody know the overall admissions rate for out of staters??? It can't be too high, much less than in-state of course. But you never know considering many of those accepted out of state do not end up matriculating anyway, you'd think UNC might "over-admit" them.......

I believe oos acceptance rate has been in the 17-19% range in the last few years.

I'm not sure of the yield percentages; but I've heard UNC doesn't play yield games at all. Whether or not they deliberately OVER-admit(accept) to get to that state-mandated oos enrollment percentage, I do not know. I assume yes...since they would have to consider how many do not actually enroll when filling the class. But, I also understand they usually do not have to hit the waitlist too hard, so they must have their 'formula' pretty well fine-tuned.

That 82ish percent having to be from in state makes me feel awful special though. :)

Yeah, hopefully that 82% will get me in. Thats the only positive to living in North Carolina.

North Carolina does have a reasonable sales tax rate though. :)

thats ridiculous that its "mandated" that UNC has an 82% in-state class...

I'm from OOS too, but why is it ridiculous? It's a state school that wants to educate its citizens before people from out-of-state. At least they take SOME OOS-ers.

I've talked to my state representative about the instate out of state ratio and he said that in the general assembly some ppl have tried to lower the instate percentage but the bill always fails miserably in the vote.

You could always apply to Western Carolina University. :)

Well, personally, we NCers dont like the infestation rate of common New Yorkers. While the admission rate is 18% out of state, it's probably even lower for NY residents.

18% of out-of-staters is actually pretty high. The University of Florida is under 10% of out-of-staters (I'm thinking 8%). The University of Washington is about 12%. The University of California's are less then 10%. So, relatively speaking, it's not so bad :)

I guess chapel hill can't help the fact that it is such a hip establishment of higher learning.

lol, I agree. I can't wait to matriculate at Chapel Hill :D

Is that legal? jk :)

Are you for real? I guess the rumor that NC hates northerners is true, based on your comment. I'm not sure I want to attend now.

You hear one thing on a message board and aren't sure you wanna go? Ok.

especially since atomicradish plans on moving up north when he graduates.... hahahahahaha

"Well, personally, we NCers dont like the infestation rate of common New Yorkers. While the admission rate is 18% out of state, it's probably even lower for NY residents."

haha, fantastic. I swear I'm a really nice New Yorker. =P
