Out of state student at UGA

I am from Washington state and I am looking at attending University of Georgia. I love what I have seen of the campus, Athens and the idea of living and attending college in a friendly place sounds very nice!
Recently I was told that it is very hard to adapt and be included at UGA as an out of state student. I was hoping any current students could give me some honest insight (I want to enjoy my college and make great friends).
I know that Greek life is big at UGA and while I’m not opposed to the idea of joining a sorority I would be disappointed if that was the only way to be socially included at the school.

Thanks!

Both of my children have had out of state roommates, and I am pretty sure they both will have life-long friends because of it. My son was in a fraternity, my daughter isn’t, and both have plenty of friends that aren’t Greek. They give amazing tours, come for a visit.

They are currently on spring break.
