Is persay an SAT word?

I agree with others in this thread that you aren’t using the right approach to building your list. You need to consider which schools are realistic for your stats, and also consider finances. Out of state public schools don’t give much financial aid, and frequently having stricter admissions standards for OOS students.

What SAT/ACT scores are you realistically aiming for? WashU would require a score of 32+, which doesn’t sound very realistic.

A 24 ACT can get you into U. Kansas, which is similar to many of the schools on your list, but less selective than most.
https://admissions.ku.edu/requirements#nonresidents

UIUC would require a pretty big boost in ACT/SAT, but perhaps the non-flagship campuses are less selective.

OP means per se Chardo. :)

OP, you didn’t say whether that was 1500 out of 1600 or out of 2400.

You may want to look into:
Luther
Earlham
Hamline
St Kate’s (if you’re a girl)
Agnes Scott (if you’re a girl/reach unless you get to 25-27)
Centre
Hendrix
Albion
Butler
Creighton
UDubuque

Plus all the test-optional schools.

All of those schools you listed are reaches for you. Pick a handful that you like the most as reach schools and look at some more realistic choices. You can add on your list as your score rises from retests. Run the EFC estimator with family income and assets and see what that number is. The EFC is usually the least you will be paying for college when you are looking at going away to college. It is highly unlikely you will get merit money without some hook or special category. You need look for schools with test score ranges where yours fall in the middle 50% to the lower part of that category, and find some schools that you KNOW will take you with current scores, and that you know you can afford.

I know I have to improve it, I had taken practice tests with some of the exact same questions and got a 32 on it. Which is what I’m aiming for. It was hard for me to believe, I spend the rest of that day crying because I didn’t do so well. But I learned from mistakes and in going to study harder. Plus there is no family issues.

^I second UKansas.

Great if you raise them. But until you raise them, start looking for better matches. You already have cherry picked the reaches. You’re done there. All fine schools. IT’s a matter of picking which ones out of that batch. Now spend the time to go for a like list of schools for a lower range. And most important of all, the sure things.

Confused. What did you get get on the SAT? 1500 out of 1600?

Thank you guys very much for responding cooperatively, as many people take what I say in the wrong way. I have already started making a list of schools that won’t be such a far reach, and are specifically in Illinois. So once again, I appreciate it, and hope to raise my scores soon so I can get into some better schools. ;)

The 1500 must be out of 2400 (which would be similar to the 21 ACT).

OP, once you get another score try using the Supermatch engine available on the left side of the page on CC.

Most students only improve their ACT score by 1 or 2 points. Since you took the test in distressing circumstances, I added more. Let us imagine that you get a 25. I know you believe you can get a 32, and you may well indeed: you’ll have a list of schools that you like, are pretty sure you can get into, and will qualify for merit aid. If you don’t get your desired scores, you’ll still have found schools you like.
This website tells you what colleges you can aim for with a 25 on the ACT:

That’s a pretty good list to explore, isn’t it?

All of the above are good schools, with solid academics. I only selected public universities OOS if I know they have scholarships for OOS applicants. “Vibe” varies greatly, some are mostly Greek, some are Tech schools, others are conservative, others liberal, some small some large, some urban some rural… I removed schools that have a strong religious identity since I don’t know whether you want that or what faith you are and I also removed any school that doesn’t have strong enough academics.

Once you’ve identified a good dozen colleges (or more) from the above list that you like, run the net price calculators for each. This will be tedious but will save you much time and agony next Spring. Bring the results to your parents and discuss budget.

Then come back to post here for more advice. :)

in one post you’ve just given this kid more great advice than probably 75% of high school college advisors ever give any of their students. great stuff.

Great list, MYOS.

Nice website that you linked to. Thanks!
