Outdoor Action!

I was wondering about bringing a cell phone. Would there be reception? I'd bring an extra battery pack and that should last about 6 days if I use very sparingly.

actually you are not allowed to bring/use a cell phone on your OA trip - so don't bother bringing it and risk losing it

do people usually bring cards or things to entertain them during the down-time?

We didn't have cards on my trip, but I guess you could. There aren't tables to play on, so don't bring them unless you don't mind them getting dirty, dusty, etc. Verbal games like Mafia are popular.

That really sucks...... (no cell phone policy)

My D thinks about bringing her guitar for evening campfire singing. Is it allowed/encouraged/discouraged/useless?

A guitar is way to big to take. Your D would be lucky if she managed to finish the trip without breaking the guitar on rocks, ground, etc. Think about it--how would you like to carry a guitar five to seven miles a day over rough terrain for a week?

What happens alcohol-wise with outdoor action?

There isn't any.

A quick thing about washing sneakers: While throwing them in the washer probably won't do them any harm, I wouldn't put sneakers in the dryer. The heat can melt the glue that holds the shoe together and make the shoe break. You can dry shoes by sticking newspaper in them to absorb the water and then changing the paper every hourish.

Cell phones won't get reception in the backcountry anyway.

Don't worry about cell phones - you'll see when you're on Outdoor Action; you won't want to call anyway, and it would look weird, since you aren't 12 anymore.
