Outing club/chorus

Two questions:

Can anyone tell me how active the outing club is? How often is something scheduled?

For a non-music major singer...are there opportunities for singing in ensembles, like a chorus? And I guess I am assuming that would be at Eastman, so...how difficult would it be to get a spot in a chorus, competing with vocal majors?

There are two choruses on the River Campus for female voalists. You cannot audition for an Eastman chorus although sometimes the two choruses perform together. There is the Women’s Chorus and the more selective mixed vocal Select Chorus. My daughter’s first semester freshman year, there were no openings for the fall for the Select Chorus but she auditioned and was accepted for second semester.

Outing club is moderately active. Organized trips for fall and spring break. (Fall is usually canoeing in Canada; spring is either weeklong back pack somewhere warmer than NY or a cabin trip with multiple day hikes.)

Some weekend day hikes/canoeing to nearby state parks.

Outing Club run the UR Foot program in August for incoming freshmen.

D2 says the group is overwhelming male. And that can be a plus or minus depending on your student’s gender and how comfortable she (if it’s a she) is with being the only girl in a group of 10 guys on a trip.

Thank you both for your replies. Yes, I have an interested D, who would like to participate in both of these in college.
