outside scholarships and effect on financial aid?

hey guys i know that if you have outside scholarships this reduces the student and parent contributions...if my scholarship can cover both the family contribution and still have a remaining balance, is that amount deducted from the loans in the GU financial aid package? or does GU subtract the outside scholarship amount from the GU scholarship (and leave the loans)?

Talk to the FA office. We have found them to be easy to work with and flexible. Freshman year we had the outside scholarship applied to the work study amount. This year we applied the scholarship against the loan amount. I believe that, because of federal FA regulations, the loans and work study are replaced before the student and family contributions are reduced. Also, Georgetown does not reduce the institutional grant.
