For the Class of 2016, I was fortunate enough to be awarded the Semifinalist Scholarship, which is a full tuition stipend. I am overjoyed; this lifts big burden from the family.

I was wondering whether any outside scholarships I receive--say, from my father's place of work--would apply to Room & Board and other fees. Or would that depend on the stipulations of the awarding body, rather than Fordham?

You are required to report outside scholarships to any school you accept an offer of admission. What they do with it sometimes depends on the school and sometimes according to federal regs such as financial aid, and often results in a reduction of the award.

I would call Fordham and see what they say.

This is the main reason so many outside scholarships go unclaimed and unawarded.

My D had a full tuition/fees/books through rotc and fordham provided an award that covered room- she received outside scholarship from an organization that sent the money directly to fordham under her name. Unfortunately this was shown on the invoice and just reduced the amount paid for room so it made no real difference to our bottom line. Dont get me wrong, we are thankful beyond our wildest expectations but you should definitely check. Had we known this going in we would not have accepted this award so that a deserving child could use this where it would have made some difference for them.
