Over enrollment

In 2002 or so…Pepperdine way overenrolled. They offered FREE tuition to anyone who deferred for a year. We know a kid who did it.

One year, Brandeis overenrolled one of their graduate programs. Same deal…free tuition for anyone who was willing to defer a year. We know someone who took that offer too!

Wow @thumper1 - that’s quite the offer. Free Tuition would be pretty darn attractive! Have a feeling that wont be happening at dd’s big public.

@momofsenior1

Remember…Pepperdine is pretty small undergrad, and Brandeis…the particular department was quite small…and they totally over estimated their yield.

ETA…Pepperdine is located in Malibu where there is really not a lot of affordable student off campus housing…and really NONE within walking distance of that campus.

Northeastern was over enrolled last year by over 300 freshmen. It created a housing crunch that they could not afford to repeat. This year the EA and RD acceptances were very conservative resulting in a preliminary acceptance rate of 19%. They are now going to the waitlist to achieve the targeted class size.

My law school was overenrolled by almost 100 students one year. All the alums got letters saying this wouldn’t happen again, and they’d limit acceptance to the number of spots and then fill extra spots as accepted students turned the spots down.

They added another section, but that didn’t solve the problem that the school was designed for fewer students, that there weren’t enough lockers or bathrooms or seats in the library. This problem continued for 3 years until that extra section graduated. Too many students for the small section classes, too many for Evidence in second year, too many for the dean’s office to process transcripts. No transfer students accepted either.
