people keep telling me that Baylor is overrated… opinions? i obviously don’t think so, but what do you think? i mean, it does cost a lot, but it’s a good school…

Overrated? Compared to what?

Baylor is ranked #79 in the USNWR National University rankings. The stats of enrolled students for average 25/75 SAT and GPA are comparable to the other schools ranked in the same general area, say 65-95. The student/faculty ratio is also consistent with that grouping.

I guess the next time somebody mentions “overrated”, you should ask them specifically what they mean. Unfortunately, it usually means nothing more than “I don’t know much about it but I don’t like the little I do know”.

As to “costs a lot”, that is pretty far off base as far as Private schools is concerned. Tuition+Fees at private Universities tends to be in a range of $39,000 - $42,000 for the upcoming year. Baylor’s Tuition+Fees is about $32,000. That is well below that range. Room and Board at Baylor is around $10,500 for a 2 person room. That is on the low side nationally, with an average Room/Board of about $12,000.

So, I don’t really understand where that comment comes from at all. If “costs a lot” is meant in comparison to a taxpayer supported State school, where COA is about $26,000 and where Baylor’s COA is about $46,000, then I understand your point. However, take into account that probably 30% of Baylor students (don’t know the exact number) fall into the Merit Scholarship calculator, that $46,000 comes way down to $36,000, or $32,500, or $31,000 etc. Not that much more that the $26,000 for an average State school.
