Overused Essay Topics

Hello

I'm starting to write my supplement essays and I was wondering if anyone could give me a bunch of topics to avoid. For the "what matters and why" essay, I wanted to write family and how my past experiences with my family affected my motives but I've seen on a bunch of sites that the topic family is overused and it might not be very good after all. What do you think?

just do what you feel most comfortable in, whether it is overused or not. if it stands out, it doesn’t matter

your novel point about the topic is important.if you express new opinions about topics people used, then the topics will not be regarded as overused ones.

Whether you use a common topic, your anecdote and the points you bring up is the most important !

Do they have any kind of prejudice towards overused topics? Like, if he sees that it’s about family in the first sentence, is he already suddenly turned off or something?

Unless this “he” you speak of had a family member (sister, brother, dog) who oozed with hotness, then yes, he will be turned off. Heck, everyone is turned off by families. That’s why there are so many couples-only resorts.

Family is fine. Remember that they’re trying to see what your outlook is and how you present it. Try to be positive and show appreciation for whatever it is you focus on.

Family is only a hitch when kids write about it in the same old tired ways- or go on about how the new baby cousin is their inspiration or reveal awful negatives. Or, believe it or not, that they can’t bear the thought of leaving home.

Any essay can be good it you work hard on it and it is meaningful to you…That being said I would like to know a list of common topics to avoid.
