Oxford housing vs. Bursley

My roommate and I were placed in a double in Oxford but were offered to switch to Bursley. We wanted a more traditional style dorm which Bursley would be better for but don’t know if the location of Oxford makes it a better fit. If anyone who has lived in either of these places has any advice it would be appreciated!

My kid lived on Central Campus last year, but had a friend who lived in Oxford and loved it. While Oxford is off on its own, the South U area and Greek Life are very close by. In fact, Greek life may keep you up late on the weekends. Central Campus is walkable from Oxford, at least my kid walked out there a lot. But there’s also a shuttle bus to Central that takes a few (2-3) minutes. There’s a outdated gym at Oxford, but it’s only about a mile to the IM, which is bee-you-tee-full. There’s a dining hall too at Oxford.

Oxford all the way, IMO.

Oxford is a little isolated, and the cafeteria is not the best on campus. On the positive side, it’s still on the campus bus route, is almost across the street from the Arb, and its a 7 -10 min walk to the CCRB and central campus.

Bursley is a lot bigger, and a good choice if you are in engineering, music, SMTD, or Stamps because at least some of your classes will be on North Campus. It’s a lot more isolated on the weekends. NCRB is across the street which is a plus.

You can eat at any dorm/dining hall that you wish, and many students eat lunch or dinner elsewhere when they live at these dorms.

FYI, CCRB (Central Campus Recreation Building) is scheduled to close for renovations at the end of the Fall semester 2020. So it’s still usable for another year and 1/2.
