Oxford VS Imperial for Biomedical Engineering MSc

Hello all,

I have offers by both the University of Oxford and the Imperial College London for a Biomedical Engineering MSc, and I must say that I am facing a big dilemma choosing one.

Given that funding is not an issue, which one would you choose and why? I would like to choose on the grounds of academia - and not choose for example Imperial just cause I think life in London is better.

eg: A degree from which one do you think will get me a PhD deal in the USA easier?

Thanks for your time
Andreas

Surely this decision needs to be one based on your opinions on the respective departments, academic staff and supervisor’s reputation?

from what I can see they are on par, that’s why I am asking here -as more users are from the USA- which one you think will give me better grounds to continue for a phd overseas…

both are equally good. no doubt. Imperial has always been known for its engineering. sort of like the UK version of MIT / Caltech.
Oxford is like the overall heavyweight like Harvard / Yale.
even though oxford is considerably much more known that Imperial, you can do no wrong with either one.

If it makes any difference, Oxford is more well known among normal people.

I generally agree with your first reply.

Also consider that living in Oxford (small town, small world. Cared for, housed and fed by your lovely homely college) compared to London (very much bigger and more diverse. Lots more going on. Possible lots of travel time to distant accommodation. More expensive) is very different.
