I'm currently deferring my admission at both schools for a semester to do some volunteer work etc and also to FINALLY decide which school to choose. I still don't know, and I'm struggling so much/ can't decide which one is better. I'm going to study Biological Sciences at both. They are both my dream universities, and I've visited both...and of course, both are so stunning.

Which would you guys choose? How does the social life at Stanford compare to the social life at Oxford?
I really like the learning environment at Oxford...and I love how Stanford is very laid-back, but I can also be an uptight person...so I think that might make me fit into Oxford more (plus Oxford can be laid back too). How laid back is Stanford? Because I really cannot stand to be in a party school, and thats what I'm worrying about most. I know there's stuff like Full Moon on The Quad at Stanford..and just wondering if that's a very popular event? Because I haven't heard about it until now! Do a lot of Stanford students party very "trashily" compared to a prestigious school such as Oxford, Harvard etc? I feel like since both are wonderful schools, my decision will be mainly based off of the social scenes at the two universities.

pretty sure that you can’t defer admissions to Oxford for a semester…not least b/c they are not on a semester system (and of course the 2014 term hasn’t even started yet). You can have a gap year, but you have to say that when you apply (barring something serious coming up, obvs).

Let me be frank. The odds of you making a choice between these two schools is extremely low. The way you phrased the question makes me believe you are planning to “apply” to these schools rather than making a choice. The other tell-tale sign is that Stanford absolutely does not allow any one to defer enrollment unless they have relinquished their spots at ANY other institution. And by the way…they are on a quarter system not a semester system. So sorry.

There is no deferment of admission by a semester at Stanford either. Usually, most top schools want you to defer by an year. However, OP has no clue what system Stanford uses.

Yikes… I meant to say a full year, not a semester! I obviously know Stanford goes by the quarter system. Chill out a bit x. There’s asolutely no reason to be so harsh…regardless of whether or not people are trolling, they’re still asking a question nicely so you might as well answer it properly.
You’re most definitely NOT allowed to defer admission and hold another place at another university as well. But one is in the UK and the other is in the USA. Both universities do not know. One school uses UCAS- the other uses Common Application, so there’s NO WAY they can find out. They are schools in TWO different countries- in case that is not clear!!!

At the end of the day, yes, I am faced with this decision (couldn’t care less if you don’t believe me; if you’re here to speak negatively…then you might as well not post) so all I’m asking is for some kind advice because many students are accepted to more than one reach university.
