Oxy RD Discussion 2015

I live in the South and none of them have my region, state or nearby states listed are their areas; no one has emailed me either. Eh but dancepyschlove you’re right, I know a have a counselor, I just wish I knew who they were.

have fun!! (:

thanks!! I can’t wait! I’m in big trouble with my dance company for missing a rehearsal to go to Cali but I told them to stick it cause I’m going to OXY.

26 days!!!
I’m anxious as hell!!!

Have a ton of fun! The weather is great this week and the air is really clear because it just rained. It’s so nice. :)

The wait is killing me.

Sorry if this is random but does Oxy send their admission decision through the online account they gave us, email, or snail mail?

Snail mail for sure. I hope they use the online thing too.
Just landed!! It’s gorgeous here.

i think its snail mail too. pretty good weather here today! reached 80 degrees!

with what quebueno3 had to say, my impression of Oxy has changed drastically.
I seriously mean it. Racial problems…arghhh!!! :'(

Honestly, I would take their words with a grain of salt. They are looking to transfer out and ‘warn’ people, but it is really just one person’s perspective. I wouldn’t believe it until you hear more people express the same opinions. Quebueno said there are an equal number of guys and girls, and the student at Oxy I talk to said that it is very disproportionate and lacking in straight guys. See? Different perspectives. College is what you make of it.

Dance, would love to hear about your visit - even better if you can start a new thread for those new parents who come looking, thanks.

dancepsychlove WELCOME TO SOCAL! Occidental’s campus is BEAUTIFUL, the otur guide is amazing and you’ll love the Office of Admissions if you like Victorian-Jane Austen-y things! Have fun!

BTW, do you guys think decisions will come out late March or early April?! I’m getting so impatient and anxious!

yeah I feel you Expeliarmus

^I am trying to do this myself, but I’d be lying if I said my outlook on the school has not changed.

I’ll definitely post about my visit after I leave! it’s at 10 am tomorrow.
And in response to the concerns about racism, I do agree that the worries have merit, though I am still skeptical. I will be asking about this tomorrow at my visit and bringing it up with my student contact, who has been very honest with me. Although I am a Caucasian girl, I strongly believe in egalitarianism and will not go to Oxy if it truly does illustrate discrimination.
On a lighter note, I can’t wait to visit tomorrow :)

Take an umbrella! It’s supposed to rain tomorrow.

I agree. I mean, I’m sure quebueno’s posts are true to her experiences, but in one of her posts she states that she’s having trouble socializing specifically because of a lack of diversity. Now, I’m a statistics person, and I have to wonder what other factors are possibly adding bias to her lack of ability to “date/party/make friends”. She could be totally dead on balls accurate, but I don’t think the opinion of one person is enough to completely sway my opinion.

I have a black female friend at Oxy right now who is also a freshman and loves it. It could go either way.

I lied! I think the forecast changed. Take one just in case, but it should only be a bit hazy.

That’s exactly what I think too. So we’ll see what the admissions people say today (leaving in 30 min). I really hope LA traffic doesn’t bite us in the butt, although we’re leaving 2.5 hrs early…
I hope it doesn’t rain again! I went to Disney/CA Adventure yesterday (instead of working in my English paper…) and it rained during World of Color. I can’t wait!!

I didn’t notice much discrimination when I went. Though I wasn’t particularly looking. But the campus comes across as far too liberal in my own opinion. I’m a centrist. I feel like I’m very tolerant towards most views, but everyone I talked to seemed extremely left. I want political diversity within a school. Oxy severely lacks it.

Overall, I was really disappointed with my visit.

Well, that’s probably what you should expect from the #1 most liberal school in the nation.

Exactly.
I LOVE OXY. I will post all about my visit later!
