Oxy RD Discussion 2015

I was just cc’d on the email my child got for the Multicultural Visit Program.

Looks as if they are only going to pay for the child’s expenses to visit and not for a parent to come along. Will have to think on letting student who is still only 16 years old at this time make this trip alone or spring for my airfare/hotel and go along.

Is the decision coming in snail mail for the internationals too?

@UofICPA
They do not pay for the parents to attend because the parents are not invited. It is a visit for your child to experience the real Oxy, the one where their parents won’t be there. I understand your concern because your child is only 16, but unless you’ve had an issue with your child involving drinking/drugs/sex, you should let your child go alone. Next year, if s/he DOES decide to go to Oxy, your child won’t have you there. Instead, let your child go, make it clear that if ANYTHING makes them uncomfortable s/he can come home early (no questions asked), and be nervous like every other parent sending their kid away.

Has anyone RD heard back??
I have a friend who told me her friend got an acceptance letter in the mail Thursday, but I’ve received nothing, acceptance or rejection, and based on the conversation on here no one else has either…

Nobody here has gotten an acceptance letter, but hellokitty and myself have gotten a card in the mail and and an email from our counselor about what she liked about our applications. Is that the acceptance letter she’s referring to?

Acceptance letters are officially sent out on March 24th.

thus…11 more painful days and nights :'(

Plus the time waiting for the mail to arrive…ahhh. I’m leaving for Russia next Friday so I’ll probably miss the day it comes to my house.

I am an international…so I would be receiving it by an email…almost no waiting…
woah…Russia is cold!!!hahaha
have some Vodka (since greek life needs people to drink)

Lucky!! I hope it’s a good email
Yeah Russia is supposed to be freezing now…I’m going for a MUN conference, so that should be awesome. I think if I go to Oxy I will rush…what about you guys?

I’ll flash! haha

Do people think the postcard that some received means something? Since it came so close to decision time or just a notification that your application was read? It is hard to know what to make out of it.

Did anyone just receive the postcard from the counselor but not the email that the card mentioned? That’s what happened here.

I got both. The email was very personalized and implied acceptance…if I got rejected after that, then there is something very wrong with them.

Just got the email today! It was very encouraging and I think it would be very mean so close to decisions coming out if this ended in rejection. I guess it must be a sort of likely letter that some colleges send out.

At least I hope so!!

I didn’t get an email or a postcard:(
Guess I didn’t get in SIGH

@yumberry, I also didn’t get the email/postcard that others on the board did, but I guess that many admits don’t get them - I’m trying to keep up my hopes for 14 or so more days…

Not everyone gets them. I talked to someone in the admissions office who said that some counselors are really into sending postcards and some don’t want to or just don’t have the time to do so.

yeah i think it depends on the counselor. it would seriously suck if the email didnt signify anything. today i got a big envelope from oxy and my mom opened it! i bet she thought it was an acceptance letter, but no luck yet. it was four books called oxy track in four small volumes mailed by office of admission. did you guys get it?

I got the Oxy Tracks too. But I got them separately.

Sent from my SPH-D700 using CC App

I wouldn’t read anything out of getting OxyTracks. Anyone can request them. When my brother applied to Colgate last year, they sent him huge packets right before decisions came. He was wait listed. When the acceptance comes, you’ll know :)
