Oxy vs. George Washington

Please Help!! I am choosing between Occidental College and George washington university. I do not know for sure if I want to go onto med school, but for now, I applied as a psych major. I want to know which school is better for Psych/Neuroscience major, and medical programs. Also, if you could tell me anything you know about the school’s characteristics, class sizes, professors, students, how welcoming they are, etc, I’d appreciate it. Thank you soo much in advance!!

Please help, if you read this and can say anything about it!

Have you visited either? These are two totally different schools. GWU is large, urban, and integrated into the city. Oxy is a small LAC campus in a suburb of Los Angeles.

If you want to go on to med school you don’t want to take on debt, if at all possible. Is one school substantially less expensive than the other?

You’ll need to research the other information you’ve asked about in the Oxy and GWU forums, as well as the schools’ websites.

If you’re going to med school your best bet is whichever school is cheapest.
GWU is right in the city. Oxy is in a “bubble” in a suburb outside of LA. With GW you have access to the subway and are within walking distance of monuments, impt. buildings, etc. GWU has 10,000 undergrads. Oxy has 2,000. GWUs classes will start big and taper down, while Oxy’s classes will be small all the way through. Personally, I would not choose GWU for STEM considering the price (although their med school/hospital are very good). It’s a place I would be more interested in if I was into politics and government. Oxy has good STEM, but make sure that you’re aware of the limitations you would have on the number of courses you could take simply because of Oxy’s size.

What’s your parents’ budget?
If you calculate (tuition, fees, room, board) - (scholarships, grants), what results do you get for each?

As far as personal preference, I’d pick Oxy for psychology - intro to psych classes (1st and 2nd year classes) tend to be huge at all universities and would be at GWU for sure; in addition, GWU is mostly known for poli sci, IR, etc.
