Me, neither.
I got the e-mail and am ignoring it.
A quick read from the FTC.
https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/blog/2019/07/equifax-data-breach-pick-free-credit-monitoring
No email for me either. Thanks for the head’s up.
I updated my claim with the name of my credit monitoring per the email. Everyone who ignores it will mean more fractional pennies for the cash claims ;).
I haven’t received any such email, but I’m wondering if that’s because I also filed a claim for compensation based on time spent as a result of the breach. As I recall, there wasn’t a requirement of going into much detail if the total hours claimed were 10 hours or less. From the FTC link above, that taps into a separate and different fund.
I named AAA and the service I got from the anthem/opm breaches. I got the email.
I switched from the cash to the credit monitoring
I did get the email but have been busy this weekend so did nothing so far. My daughter has credit monitoring through Credit Karma because I used them for her taxes a few years ago. They’d sent a email a month or so ago telling her to file for the refund because she had the monitoring. I have it through my credit card at my credit union (and I guess through AAA).
I think the wording is strange because, if I recall, it required you to have alternative credit monitoring for 6 month AFTER the claim period ends, NOT when you filed. THEY aren’t providing credit monitoring right NOW, so why should you have to have it when you file?
Well, I just did get the email – I responded and the form had a character limit so I couldn’t actually enter a complete list of all the credit monitoring services I have.
I gave them “TrueIdentity, IDNotify, Credit Karma”
TrueIdentity = TransUnion free service
IDNotify,= from Experian, – I got it for free, but apparently it is something that ordinarily is fee-based. But so far no indication that they plan to charge me.
Credit Karma = also free, obviously
I actually have additional services in place, but didn’t have room to list them all. Nothing I pay for, but it seems like a lot of banks and credit cards are getting on board to offer some sort of free credit info,
Since the online form didn’t allow enough space to enter more than about 45 characters, I think that this email is just intended to weed people out. Basically anyone who doesn’t respond by October 15th gets knocked out automatically. And some who do respond will opt for the free monitoring instead, since word is out now that the cash settlement is likely to be a lot less than initially indicated.
It’s my understanding that accepting the offer from Equifax means you lose the right to sue them for damages from the breach in the future. Huge scam, imo.
Still waiting for an email.
It is not a scam, but like most class action cases there isn’t a big pot of money for the little people.
I just got a class action notice from Sirius Radio, and I can either have 3 months of service or $12.
I did that as well (the time it took me to freeze all my credit) and I got the email. I have free credit monitoring from more than one CC, so I put one of them.
@OHMomof2 – as noted in my post #89 – I did get the email after all, just several days later than others. So apparently they are being sent out in different batches, for reasons unknown. (Maybe just to avoid overburdening servers when people respond??)
Sorry @calmom I missed that. My D got her email a day before I did, makes sense they’d do batches.
I got the email but was stopped in my tracks when they required the Claim Nbr to enter the credit monitoring service. I have no idea what my Claim Number is, so I give up.
Isn’t the claim number right in the email? Mine has it right at the top, in big bold letters/numbers
Ditto on the claim number being at the top of the email. Right after the words: Your Claim Number.
^Right. I was all set to search emails to look for a confirmation with the number, but when I went back to email, there was the still open one with the large number right in front of me.
