paid for science research?

I know students can get funding for doing research over the summer, but I was wondering if you can get paid during the fall/spring semesters. Or do Cornell professors only offer for credit?

Also, what are the typical hours a week of research expected from a student? Are professors flexible in this regard? Do they expect you to work for specific hours or can you come in whenever (or is research only offered as a class)? Or does this depend on the individual professor?

Thanks!

I remembered at a student preview meeting that one of the student ambassadors mentioned that due to the poor economy, student research would only receive credit, not pay.

In general, mundane research work gets pay, while research that also involves a meaningful learning experience may be awarded credit.

There is a gray area, of course. Depending on the college, your professor’s own research funding, and your own circumstances (e.g. Rawlings CPRS membership), opportunities for research for credit or pay may differ.
