OK, here's the deal. My son was a highly probable candidate for the Naval Academy. Lo and behold, today, he got his rejection letter. NOW my husband and I are panicked about tuition for Wake. It's the ONLY place that our son wants to go and that's great - I graduated in '80 and his grandfather graduated in '49. Wake is in our blood. But we haven't even begun the scholarship/grant process. What do we do now????????????

If you have your forms turned in you should get the fin aid package in the coming weeks. Call up the office to make sure everything is good to go. Just wait and see after that.

I know that a lot of the merit scholarships have already been awarded, but the financial aid package, assuming that you filled out FAFSA and/or the Profile, is probably still in the works. I agree that it can't hurt to call.

I can't believe that your son didn't apply for Army, Navy or Air Force ROTC scholarships. If he was committed enough to be an officer in the Armed Forces I would think that he'd see ROTC as an avenue. It's not too late to sign up for ROTC but he'll have to apply next year for a scholarship for his remaining three years. At Wake Forest, if you get an ROTC scholarship, I think Wake covers the room and board. So you'll end up paying for only one year. By the way, Vern Clark, the Chief of Naval Operations didn't go to Annapolis, he didn't even do ROTC. He did Officer Candidate School after he graduated from Evangel College and now he's the head guy in the Navy.

Good luck.

He's definitely considering application to the Navy ROTC program for Sophomore - Senior years. It was just sort of a shock getting that rejection letter from the Navy, especially when Blue & Gold Officer said everything was a go and he had nominations and everything. Anyway, I graduated from Wake in '80 and my father graduated in '49. We're tickled "gold and black" to be part of the Wake family again!

These scholarships are very competitive - in order to get a leg up on one your son should think about doing ROTC his freshman year (with now scholarship). Good luck at Wake.

My son is planning to go to UCLA on an Army ROTC scholarship but is still waitlisted at West Point. So, nothing is set yet.
