D already applied to some colleges and in parent information sections in common app or coalition app, put my (parent) employment info.
If I move to a new job in next couple of months, should D be informing all the colleges about employment change where ever the application is already sent? Since it is parent employment information, should parent be responsible for informing the colleges?
Can common app/coalition app profile info be edited to reflect new job info for any future college applications?
I think colleges use that information for demographic purposes or to shed light on the applicant’s background or life experience. But they are more interested in category or type of employment rather than your specific job title. That is, blue collar vs white collar, menial work vs employment requiring a college or graduate degree, etc.
Some colleges are need blind but others are not. For the ones that are not, it does matter. However, if the pay is about the same, I would just wait until the acceptance letters are out and you are filling out the financial aid forms. And, of course I would only say anything after you change jobs.
This has nothing to do with financial aid or whether or not the college considers need in admissions. The common app does not ask for salary info, and financial aid is tied to the numbers reported on FAFSA and other supporting documents, not job title or industry.
In some circumstances, it may be appropriate to report the loss of employment to the financial aid department, if that means family resources are significantly lower than the numbers shown in the FAFSA and past years’ tax returns. In that case the parent may be requesting that professional judgment be used to modify need-based aid.
