parents and prospective parents of class of 2018

WindowMomto2 - we are still getting up to speed on all the stuff related to move-in.My son is going to August 20-21 orientation and moving in on august 18. I am trying to figure out what size bed sheets he is going to need,it says on the housing site that 1300 has standard twin beds so any standard twin sheets should fit ,right?

yes, standard sheets should fit and yes,1300 has standard size beds. you can order an extra long mattress on line if your kid needs a longer bed

started putting together a packing list today - amazing amount of stuff and that’s not including the art supplies he’s going to need! Younger son is leaving for camp this Sunday so actually concentrating on getting his stuff together. @Midwestma - My son will also be in 1300 but won’t be moving in till the 20th.

My D is also in 1300, moving in on the 19th, doing the orientation on 8/20-8/21. My husband & I were talking today, we think we will need 2 cars to get all the stuff there on move in day!!

mine is in 1300 too; the official dorm for kids of the CC parents :)

So moving in on the 18 is not mandatory for Honors? Thats when all LLC are suppose to be moving in,including honors but its good to know there are other options. We will probably drive 2 cars as well @ zebradome .

no, it’s not mandatory but you are supposed to get in touch with housing if your kids moves in on a different day than on the schedule. mine decided the 18th made the most sense as everything will be set up for his floor if you will, plus i think there are RA meetings for the afternoon everyday of move in week for the kids who moved in earlier that da. eg if a kid moves in on the 20th, there is a Ra meeting for his floor on teh 20th, fyi, for anyone moving in on the 18th, no meal plan til the 19th…

My D is in 1300 as well - 2nd floor. We should all wear a flower in our lapel on move-in day so we can recognize a fellow CC’er…

:)

My D will be representing Honors in Hardwick :). She moves in on the 19th. Thanks for the info on RA meetings. Hopefully, it works that way for Hardwick.

My S will be representing Honors in Hardwick, as well, moving in on the 19th in the a.m. :)

DS will be on 1st floor South @ 1300. Would have preferred 2nd floor but nothing was left by the time he picked a room.

Is anyone else renting the room safe? DS needs one but this one seems so big.

@kc1214mom - excellent! They’ll be moving in at the same time. My D is on the 2nd flr and really likes Hardwick.

mom4cw - I was wondering about safes. Are they for credit cards/$/license or laptops?

iam thinking of buying him one for his ipad, credit cards would be smart to put in there too. thre are some small ones at Costco that i thought were not badly priced. might be mixing that up with fridges though but i think costco online had several safe sizes

D is on the north side, 1st floor. I rented the safe for D, along with fridge/microwave combo. I figured she could put it under her bed or in her closet.

@WindowMomto2 - DS needs one for his laptop, his meds & credit card. He’ll probably throw his wallet in there too if he doesn’t need to have it on him. It needs to be small enough to be out of the way and have a cable so it can be secured to a piece of furniture. The one that can be rented through the school is 18x16x9 so more than large enough. @ctl987 - I’ll take a look at what Costco has.

@WindowMomto2‌ - my S stayed in Hardwick for orientation and liked it a lot. He will be living on the 4th floor.

Anyone know what size rug is needed? We’re guessing 4 feet by 6 feet-- thoughts?

All right - so a safe sounds like a great idea. Thanks for the info.

My D thinks that size for the rug sounds about right. We haven’t gotten one yet. We have a large pile of college “stuff” already, but still more to buy!

We haven’t gotten a laptop yet either - a big one on the to-do list! We have two older laptops here, but they are older.

FYI - They told Tyler students during orientation to hold off buying a laptop till next year. Apparently Graphic Design students will need a specific laptop with specific types of software so they don’t want you to buy software now that might be out-of-date next year. We gave DS a chromebook (birthday present) so he’ll have something for writing papers, email, etc. and saving the big expense till this time next year.
