Not sure if this is the right place to ask but, question says it all. I don't know why my parents even decide to file taxes separately when we all live under the same roof and they're married. My problem is, for many scholarships, they ask for adjusted gross income and all the other financial stuff. I'm listed under my mom's tax forms as a dependent while I'm not on my dad's. So what should I do? Do i just list my mom's tax info and send in her forms? Or do i just combine both my parents income and all their other tax stuff to the best of my ability and send in both of their income tax forms?

You’ll need to include both parents’ info. It doesn’t matter that they file separately.

Yes, you have to send the combined incomes. That is what the scholarship (and financial aid) people want to know.

Okay thanks y’all! But I’ve had submitted a scholarship (horatio alger) with only listing my mom’s info (since I’m a dependent on hers). At first I was very unsure of this and called the Horatio Alger folks before submitting my application and he seemed very rushed and said to just put my mom’s info. I did just that and sent my mom’s forms in. I’ve sent my dad’s forms as well because I had an odd feeling. Do y’all think that this will affect me as an applicant with some kinda mismatching information? Wish I would’ve known sooner to just combine both their incomes.

Pop them an email, and ask if they’ve received your dad’s info. That way you can verify that it has arrived, and that they’ve put it all in your file.
