I have been wondering about this for a long time, but am I going to be privileged to substantial amounts of financial aid when my parents make over 100k? Even though my parents are well off, they worked to be where they are at right now, so they instill those same hardworking ethics within me. I have payed for everything for myself. Drivers Ed, State ID (which is ridiculously expensively), drivers license, car, gas, car insurance, running start fees, AP test fees, etc. They have made it clear that they are not willing to pay anything for my colleges, so I was just wondering if colleges take that into consideration, understanding that there are some kids who have to work for everything despite their parents being well off. Thank you so much for your time and consideration!
You aren’t given substantial financial aide if your parents make a certain amount, even if they choose to pay zero for college. My kids are given enough to cover 4 years commuting, all chose to go away to attend public universities, we co-signed and then put the loans in their names only after graduation (plus we paid the interest for 4 years). Even though there are 5 of them they haven’t been eligible for FA.
No, colleges will not provide more need-based financial aid just because parents who could otherwise contribute to a child’s college expenses refuse to do so.
