parents help on gap year

I got rejected by nearly all.

I want to to study for a year or half a year in Paris or London. I know that it's probably too late to apply for admissions now. Is there any program I can enroll in?

Then I hope to transfer or reappply to Yale, perhaps.

ANY suggestions? Ideas? Help? THanks!!!

H&S, I’m sorry you were disappointed by your acceptances. It’s a tough situation to be in. I don’t know your individual details so I won’t comment on the wisdom of chucking the whole thing and starting over again next year except to say it has worked – there are two brilliant success stories that I know of whose parents contribute to this board.

HOWEVER, it’s not easy or guaranteed, so think it through carefully. It may be a better idea to attend one of the colleges that accepted you, do well, then if you still feel strongly about Yale think about transferring next year.

To me the most effective gap years, are broken down into segments of 3 to 4 months each (remember that the “year” is really more like 15 months) that represent different types of activities: volunteer work, the arts, adventure travel, language study. If you don't have the money to support yourself during the whole period then you’ll need to figure a job into one of the portions.

There are tons of programs in Paris or London that you could take advantage of. These include programs at colleges and universities, volunteer organizations, travel opportunities, language schools etc. etc. What are you looking for and how much can you spend?
