Is there an age limit to attend law school? I know people who attend in their thirties. Is it possible for someone who is 50 or more to apply to law school and be accepted? Any examples?

I have a friend whose mother went to U of M law when she was in her 50's.

If there is an age limit, it would have to be unpublished and essentially, be kept secret. It would be illegal to discriminate base on age.

At my alma mater and in fact in my class we had two women easily over 50. One had been a legal secretary for 25 or so years, the other was a mom who had waited till the kids were grown to do her UG and Law School. Both made it to graduation if I remember right.

I know of three or four people in their late forties and early fifties who have applied and been accepted to medical school. I don't know why applying to law school at fifty would be any different.

I know a mother and daughter who finished law school and passed the bar in the same year.

My wife is in her mid-40's and finishing up at law school this semester. There obviously can't be any "official" age limits, because that would violate the law. And in my opinion, many law school adcoms will use an older age as a positive intangible when it comes to break ties among similar candidates. There are obviously a LOT of 22-24 year olds in law school, and older students help make for more diversity and interest. They also tend to be more serious students.

I have a client who I'd guess is in her mid fifties and she is currently in Law School.

My father in law attended law school and passed the bar when he was in his early 50's. He's been practicing for 20 years now and has enjoyed his "second career." It's never to late to follow a dream.

I read about someone who graduated from law school when she was in her 60s. She had had a very nice previous career, and after graduation entered a high level job in another field.

I also know someone who went to law school when her son was in middle school. Afterward, she practiced family law for a few years and then successfully ran for judge.
