I like all these celebrity guest postings today. Is it sweeps week? :D

Well, it is November :)

JerseyShoreMom- It was Messiah.

and the CCACKL (College Confidential Award for Caring Knowledge and Laughter) for best comedic guest performance on a thread not pertaining to your own child's needs goes to...

Received a largish envelope from Rose-Hulman yesterday. So we took it to the football game (son's last as a marching band member) and we gave it to him just before he went into the stadium. Whooping, hollering, and several congratulations! Dirty looks at the fellow who said son could just coast now.

Rose-Hulman is one of his top choices, so son is thrilled. I think he was marching on air during the halftime show!

Congratulations, fireflyscout and son! That's great!
JSM--that's nice your daughter is keeping a positive attitude.

High fives, fireflyscout!

Yeah for fireflyscout's S!!! What a nice way to remember his last marching band performance in hs.

D's rec finally arrived and UP called to tell us. How nice is that!?

Congrats! fireflyscout's S--nice story.
Historymom--glad to hear that the rec arrived.
I am feeling anxious/excited everyday when I go to the mailbox...

Hey, Congrats Fireflyscout's son! SO exciting! Historymom, it is so frustrating when all the pieces don't arrive--which is more common than not I swear! So glad it came out ok! 2 weeks from Monday is S2's first audition--I'll be checking in for a computerized form of xanax here on cc!!!

fingers crossed and break a leg SJTH's S. What is his instrument?

oregon 101 I do hope that we have the chance to meet up at the paren't's events next fall. I'm sending positive acceptance thoughts and prayers northward to you and your S too!

Good luck on the audition, SJTH! Passing the virtual Xanax your way.

Admissions counselor called to congratulate D on her acceptance and tell her that a letter would be arriving by snail mail.

Yea! for d - first college acceptance.

Guess I need to figure out how to add to the list of 2009 college acceptances. :)

Thanks Historymom and Fireflyscout!, (He's a jazz drummer.) Ignatious--so cool, a phone call!!!! I'm so excited for news for anyone!

hey-historymom-" you bettcha" that we end up meeting..sorry..is that in wickopedia now? Today was a single piece of mail that was a solicitation from my college sorority that I, frankly, did not enjoy and was one of the reasons I transferred my junior year. So...here's to hoping for good news soon and that all of our D's and S's land in a good fit school.

Congrats, Ignatius!

So, we're a few days away from deadlines, DS wrote what I thought was a good essay that was clearly his voice, school director thought it was great, now son is saying it doesn't talk enough about him....I could scream!

The essay was about DS and his friend's responses to a dinner, the food and where it came from...funny, definitely his voice, but i can't respond to the fact that it doesn't talk about his interests, why his grades aren't the best, etc. That said, the stall that's staring at me with some EA deadlines days away makes me crazy.

Also got new material for a school that I think would be a fabulous fit for him. It's a great LAC with a personality that is such a match, but he's resistant to the location (because his stepdad is from the region and we spend a lot of time there). If he would just apply and see it with an open mind, I'd be thrilled, but he's dismissed it out of hand. My mind says to have him apply and keep my fingers crossed, but my gut says to let it go. Push-pull-push-pull, how I long for May 1st!

Guess I'll let him ride through HIS process, but oh, if only I had the power to truly manage it for him....

Congrats fireflyscout! S has to get a "Ski Terre Haute" poster now, wonder if they still make them - H (Rose-Hulman alum) has one in his office

cpeltz - it sounds like you had "one of those days". I've had enough of them myself to know what you're going through. Go with your gut. It'll all work out.

Cpeltz, kids can suddenly surprise you. My son got a full tuition offer from the U. of Alabama. At first, he looked upon the school as a backup. Now, he's having some second thoughts. Some of his teachers told him that he should keep all options open -- the same thing his parents had. You could seek some assistance from his teachers or someone else who has his respect. Sometimes, the message is the same, but it's the voice that says it that makes the difference.

D almost wrote off her #1 school (so far) because they didn't have football. I convinced her to apply anyway. Who knew that a school that was at the bottom of her list is now at the tippy top (right up there with UCF in which she was deferred and alongside FSU which she should hear back from next month).
