I’m posting with a big yippee. S1 (graduates in May) was offered 2 different jobs and now must decide. One is what he dreamed of doing ever since he was a kid, but very entry level. The other is riskier, very current technology with more creative input and a lot more entrepreneurial. It almost feels like April four years ago (HS senior year!) and the admissions are in and it’s time for him to make a big decision about where he wants to go. I’m thrilled to see him so happy, and reassured he seems to be employable. heh.

Thanks for letting me share the news here. :)

D1 graduates in May with a degree in math. She applied to 2 credential programs. Today we got a fat acceptance package in the mail! It is for the combo masters/credential program AND they are offering $$! Hurray!

YAY for fat envelopes and (hopefully) fat job offers.

And @jrpar YAY for my D who called and said she had booked her Sr. picture time (April 17th) . Now she wants to know if we should ship her her pearls to wear for it??? Anyone have a vote?

Son called yesterday and casually mentioned that he won some type of award, but “I’m sure everyone won something and it’s no big deal. I’m sure they’ll just send it to me or give it to me in class the next day.” He wasn’t told anything about the award, only that the ceremony was being held at a local hotel and he was to RSVP with the number of tickets needed. He was thinking it was some type of “sales pitch” and that it must cost $. I told him he should find out what the award was before writing it off. He’s already thrown out the letter in a recycling bin by the campus post office, so reluctantly went back to retrieve it. This morning he asked his advisor about the award and was told he was receiving it for having the highest GPA in his class. All book-smarts and no common sense!

I haven’t heard anything about cap and gown. S is graduating on June 10th, and we’ve had reservations at a local motel since last summer, I think–at those jacked up rates. We just recently found out that staying in a dorm was possible. We also have dinner reservations for two nights, with the intention of releasing one night when we find out whether S’s house is doing something the other night. I have no idea what to wear, because they do it outdoors, rain or shine, and the weather in northern NE is wildly changeable at that time of year. (I gather than they do change the plans if there is anything actually life-threatening, such as lightning! ) He does have a senior picture. He’s applied for a fellowship and various internships, and is waiting to hear while applying for more. No firm plans yet for next year…

S2, my 2012 grad, won an award in middle school which we only found out about in reading the graduation program. Not as prestigious as your son’s, but a similar response.

I asked my son if he heard anything about Phi Beta Kappa, but to him, it sounds like just another fraternity. Being the helicoperter-mom that I am, I tried to find it on the college web site. It looks like not all campuses have chapters. Is that correct?
