Parents of the HS Class of 2009 (Part 1)

Are there people who were socialized as Midwestern females who do not have this issue?

Well Iā€™m from the Northeast and have those issues. Iā€™m always trying to please everyone else and then wonder where my time went. Sighā€¦

This Midwestern girl pleads guilty!

Speaking of making folks happy, I made a rhubarb custard pie today. Made ME very happy!

I have been thinking about these posts about making others wealthy/happy/less stressed. I donā€™t think that any of us - given that this all started with getting a kid ready for college- would be good with a totally or even mostly self centered life. But itā€™s a matter of what we do voluntarily, who we work with or for, whether we agree with the goals.

I remember when I was in private practice and clients would stiff me. I always thought that if I had helped a poor family stay in their home for free, that would be fine, but helping a wealthy person buy a building for no payment was highly objectionable.

^because the poor family would be out of need and the wealthy would be out of greediness.

But doesnā€™t it boil down to character?
This is something I have been trying to understandā€“how much bad behavior is out of naivetĆ©
and immaturity and how much just out of a poor character? If a person CAN act unkind, cruel,
irresponsible then is that who they actually areā€“(not the occasional lapse but ongoing).

In the end, isnā€™t bad treatment of others even without really understanding what you are doing still
out of your essence and character? Sure, if you had more knowledge or you were more mature perhaps you would make a kinder and more considerate decisionā€“OR-- still act the same.
Just something I am really curious aboutā€¦

H and I were talking about something similar just recently. I mentioned that I hadnā€™t been charged for a few things from the wedding and that it now months ago. I mentioned it a couple of times to the caterer and was told not to worry about it - they would let me know if I owed them more. This has happened with several things of late. My H feels itā€™s because I treat people well and when I hire someone to do something I donā€™t get in their way. I EXPECT that they will do a good job because well I researched them and understand their strengths. Then I get out of the way and let them do what they are good at. I try not to make unreasonable demands. I also treat the people who work for me the same way. Too bad my old boss didnā€™t also treat me that way. Seems some people just canā€™t see what they are doing to others.

Happy Motherā€™s Day to all of the motherā€™s out there. Hope you enjoy Sunday and the weekend.

Starting to more seriously look for a job outside of the company that I currently work for. I think it may be past time to do that.

Hi everyone! It has been a long, long time since I posted here (and Happy Motherā€™s Day!) - I am thrilled beyond measure to announce my DS is now a college graduate. Yes, a 9-year odyssey and exercise in persistence.

DS started at WPI, but did not do well so far from home and friends. He left his junior year and took a semester off to get back on track. He transferred to our local university, but found that almost all of his WPI credits transferred as electives, so he pretty much had to start over (changing from a Game Design major at WPI to a computer science major). Then my father with Alzheimerā€™s moved in, and we asked DS to take a lighter course load to help with the care.

Today he graduated. Weā€™ve been doing the happy dance all day. Iā€™m not sure what will happen job-wise, but for now Iā€™m just so proud he never gave up.

Thatā€™s wonderful!

Happy Mothetā€™s Day!

RMā€“just super!

Fireflyscoutā€“he didnā€™t give up and neither did you!!!
Wonderful

Great news @fireflyscout Iā€™m glad you are looking elsewhere RM.

Congrats to your S , @fireflyscout

FireflyScout, that makes me so happy!!! Son took 8 years + a summer, so yā€™all now hold the perseverance record!

I love graduations and itā€™s so nice that so many fall on Motherā€™s Day weekend.

Happy Motherā€™s Day to all of you!

Congrats to your S Fireflyscout. Some just need to get there their way. Maybe different, maybe longer but they do it! Iā€™m sure he will find a job shortly.

The boss that I was with just recently - project I was taken off of - just quit. His last day is May 24. Huh - guess they hitched their wagon to the wrong personā€¦

Congratulations to S of Firefly Scout. I have been flying a lot. Donā€™t know how those among you fly so much. I get road rage of the idiots in the airports. People can be so annoying.
My mother had bilateral knee replacements at age 80 . A few glitches initially but now doing better than people half her age. I havenā€™t been home more than I haveā€¦
RM I think the new transition will be good. for you.
I have some testing coming up. Would appreciate some good mojo sent my way.

Met with the person that wants me to look at working for him again at the new company (one I have worked for in the past) and his boss for dinner. Went well. Positions that Iā€™m looking at there arenā€™t open yet so Iā€™m in at the ground floor it I decide to make the change. Currently Iā€™m being left alone to just do my job which is where I like to be. We will see where I eventually land and what I do but Iā€™m not holding back and if moving to an old company again is the answer I shall do it.

dt, good to hear from you! Will send you fairy dust for your tests.
Flying has become such an unpleasant experience most of the time.
Remember when we dressed up and everyone was polite and happy to be taking a trip?
We did just have a lovely flight to Santa Fe. A very small plane with no middle seats,
2.5 hours. lovely staff, new or refurbished plane. Such a good surprise.

RM, I am very impressed with your tenacity! (not giving up is at the top of my list of
desirable characteristics) Keep us posted. I think you said it is closer to home?
Good luck!

Nothing new here. SIL and his father arrive mid June. They are driving out from Boston
probably with a UHaul. D and her MIL will fly with the dog at the end of June. D has one
week free and then begins her residency. I see some busy weeks during that time.
Which reminds me that I want to have a number of entrees frozen and such. Guess
I will start working on that.

Sending the good vibes, dte along with some for RM on the job issue.

Well just found out that the closing on my Ds old house went through on Friday so they can go back to paying just one mortgage. It sold in 2 days from listing but has taken a while to get through closing. Just thankful that that is now DONE!

Oregon - I would call it stubborn. My mother used to say that I had a Queen Anne act and that if things didnā€™t go my way and you got on my bad side watch out. Yes to some degree she was right (arenā€™t mothers usually?) and I do hold people accountable for treating others badly. I really try to treat people like I would want to be treated! Others should do the same.
