Our BBB has lots of twin xl everything–sheets, blankets, egg crate toppers etc.
The egg crate toppers were under $20. So much great stuff…sorry we aren’t driving…hehehe
Lots of college stuff at the Target…and right now towels are on sale…and there is tons of stuff for their rooms.

Came home from working this morning to find D in tears - not happy with AP scores. Too many 3s. She got one elective credit, but wanted another. I won’t remind her that with the Honors College she still has to take their classes; she knows that. I’m just acknowledging her general disappointment. I think a lot of her peers here did better, too, which smarts.

Neither of my girls did so hot on AP tests - can’t exactly blame it on the HS, since many other kids did better. But in the long run except for some initial hurt feelings it’s a small issue. I can imagine where it would have mattered more if their schools had different credit policies. Some people save a lot of money, and in some cases kids take what’s more important, but I have mixed feelings about APs anyway.

Frankly I’m just glad to be done with this last remnant of HS. And while I hate seeing her upset I know disappointments are important to learn to live with.

“So much great stuff…sorry we aren’t driving…hehehe”

fogfog: what about the ‘pack and hold’ at the BBB near your S’s school? is there not a BBB nearby? you don’t even have to pay for the stuff until you pick it up and decide what you need…

emmybet: “hugs” from here too…senior year AP’s, while often don’t count, can really take the fun out of summer when the scores arrive…

What dorm decorating mailings has your child received? So far at our household it’s BBB, Pottery Barn Teen, and eBags. I looked at the PBT and saw they have dry erase message boards at $60 a pop  That is so not happening with my money.

eBags offers 20% off and free shipping through mid September, which is significant when looking at some backpacks.

EmmyBet, a virtual hug for your D2, and hopes that the sting of disappointment will fade fast.

My D has chosen a path that will have disappointment after disappointment, so any practice she gets is good for her. Recovery period gets shorter and shorter - she’s all right already. And while she’s had her issues dealing with the peer comparison over the years, our HS is not a shark pool where that is concerned.

She’s going to HP tonight and has lots of fun plans this weekend, including her birthday Saturday. I think APs will soon be a distant memory.

I never considered doing the 18-for-18 gift idea, but I realized yesterday that once we find the last couple of $5 DVDs we’re looking for she’ll probably end up with 18. That would be cute.

I picked up another dozen or so plays from the library for her today, too. She has plenty of distractions!

^^I never got my act together for the 18 for 18 idea (although I figured out a cute idea for it)…check out Amazon for the DVD’s; they have great stock on alot…

Emmy: didn’t realize the girls were born the same week…

I am wondering if I should do some of that…with kiddo gone til mid August I worry about some things being out of stock…and since I have no clue what kiddo and roommate have decided -if anything- I hate to presume anything…

Can we add onto an order?
I read here about how the coupons etc saved a family alot…

Was on the Walmart site and I think they have a “pack n hold” option too.

EmmyBet – sorry for your D’s 3’s. After all that hard work… I don’t know if D has gotten her scores. She’s more into buying tix for HP @ midnight.

Rodney – we have the same princess. I try and hide the Anthropologie and Free People catalogues, but I’m not fast enough. She already told me we should take 2 cars to move her in. I think she wants one just for shoes and cosmetics…

AP scores arrived in Central Ohio yesterday (Wednesday). D got all 4’s and is ok, but wishes she got better. It wouldn’t change the credit she will get or probably her placement, but it’s the principle of the thing. She is a straight A (or A+) student, but somehow seems to do less on standardized tests. (at least she feels that way) I am glad to have that done with. Tomorrow she is supposed to be able to log in to her college page and get her dorm/room assignment. The anticipation is killing me!

I just spent the last hour or so reading all the posts since last time I was here. So much going on in everyone’s lives.

Re: bf/gf sleepovers. My house=my rules=not happening unless absolutely necessary and then they will be on separate floors (which means the dog will alert us to nocturnal movements). Not judging other parents and their rules but this is how things work at my house.

Re: spending money. The deal at our house was mom and dad pay room/board/tuition and you earn money for books and spending during your summer job. We pay car insurance and you pay for the gas and upkeep. We pay for the cell phone and you agree to be communicative and use it responsibly. Fortunately, due to some local scholarships, DS won’t need to spend any of his own $ for books first semester.

Re: shopping. Our pile of college “stuff” is growing but we still have tons on my list of things to get. It seems as if most of the biggies (comforter, sheets, towels, etc.) are done as well as school supplies (paperclips, stapler, etc. thanks to 18 for 18th!) I guess one of the main differences between boys and girls is my son could care less @colors of towels and sheets and such. His girlfriend, however, could not buy one thing until she contacted her roommates and the coordinated colors, designs, etc.

Re: roommates. DS just got his roommate assignment and we are all a bit nervous. Due to some larger numbers, he will be in a double room with 2 other boys. 3 boys in a room for 2 and my son is an only child who has never had to share…lol Should be interesting! Curiously, his school gave names, addresses and phone numbers but not email addresses.

Re: care packages. Haven’t gotten that mailer yet! But I am planning on making some of my own. I love the popcorn idea for packaging!!

FYI: Our move in date is 8/28/11. Am I the only one who thinks this summer is flying by??

I didn’t mean to downtalk our D re: APs. We are so proud of her! She is way more critical of herself than we are of her! She is pretty happy today. She got the 4s in Eng. Lit, Calc AB and German. This will satisfy her humanities requirement, her quantitative requirement and her FL requirement - plus give her actual credits. She liked that.

Doing bits of shopping here and there. Going to the Container Store College Night in Columbus on Sunday. Big need right now is athletic shorts with pockets (for tennis practice). Haven’t exhausted the possibilities, but so far have found VERY FEW options (actually only one style at Kohls - big, baggy and way too long).

Along with her dorm/room assignment posting tomorrow comes the first term (trimester) billing posting - yipee! What was that about “a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down”???

sorry rodney and emmybet…my d’s birthday was at the end of March! Happy B-day to your girls!
EB-sorry for the disappointment with AP scores. My d is not expecting good news. The only one she is REALLY hoping she gets a 4 in is Chem, so then she won’t have to take any more science at college (She already has credit for AP Physics). She is not too hopeful though…

ohio- I was at TJMaxx today and they had some sports/tennis shorts like your D needs.

momofzach - does the school have a

We just got our first bill from the burser. Lets just say I am glad I will be at HP tonight and won’t have to listen to H grumble.

Emmy - Don’t let your D let those AP scores ruin one more minute of her life. Who will ever know in 4 months what she got?

No shoping at pottery barn for this family. Slithy- thanks for the ebag info. Both kids need new backpacks this year unfortuntely for my pocketbook. I usually cheap out on S’s so I really feel obligated this year to let him pick and buy one he really wants.

mamom, D1’s current backpack is a Jansport that’s lasted her four years. If you think of the cost of the backpack as amortized over four years, it ends up being cheaper per year than going with a cheap one that gets replaced more frequently. Dark colors are good. Leather reinforcement on the bottom is good.

I just sent S’s Jansport that he used for 4 years in HS back to Jansport for repairs under their lifetime warranty, and hope it will last him another 4!

Ooooo - I can breathe again! D finally surfaced and sent me a text message a little while ago. Too busy, too many things going on. Having tons of fun and she says she got some awesome classes! Guess she likes where she’s going after all Didn’t sound like she was going to call me anytime today though :(

Aww Emmy - that’s too bad about the scores. Hurts a bit - but I am glad she’s over it and moving on.

Backpacks - some of the more expensive ones are indeed worth it. We got Lands End backpacks for both kids about four years ago - haven’t had to replace them until now. D just picked up a North Face backpack last weekend. Might take S into Lands End to see if we can get a replacement for his backpack that has a ripped handle. We were looking at ebags to get D’s backpack, but ended up buying it at the North Face store in Boston (same price).

rodney - what is the dormco website you mentioned?? Must have missed it.
