waving my hand…I’m here. I will start with coffee.

Welcome to the other side! Coffee is tasting good this morning!

You were the first to post! Thank you for starting this thread.

We are so busy transitioning from high school activities and living in VA to college and living in Al. Yesterday, the fish found a new home, the movers did pre-inspection, and I realized that between holidays, swim and dive meets, BBQ for new students, and spaghetti dinner put on by the Venture Crew, I am only cooking four more dinners at this house. It is coming really soon (ten days till the packers are here) and I actually am surprised d isn’t more freaked out by the upcoming orientation since she will be gone for three days next week for that. SHe only has seven more days until packers come. She decided to do a big open house on the Sunday before the packers come on Monday for her going away party. It will be easy- get prepackaged chips, fruits, etc, plus drinks- and she liked going to one in February for debate team members who were moving to Kenya (State Department). I am so happy that she has become much less shy and acts more confidently now. I told her that while she may not feel social, with practice, she will do fine.

Looking forward to the many conversations to come!

KathieP - thanks for starting the thread and picking such a great name!

It hit me this morning…we leave 6 weeks from today to take DD to school. I am vacillating between focusing on the details (rent a car, buy stuff for the dorm, worry about shot records) and thinking about what life will be like when she is 1000 miles away and our nest is empty. I am so grateful for CC and all of you because I know you will understand the mixture of joy and sadness I am experiencing.

Have a safe and fun holiday weekend!

Thanks Kathie for the beautiful opening. What could be better then to shake off the dust from the past few years, start anew with all your old friends in a place where you have shared history and can welcome new friends? For a person that doesn’t like change…this is about as painless as it gets. None of the bad and all of the good.

Here’s to our kids who brought us all together!!

KathieP – great job! Good to ‘see’ everyone (even those of us still in our jammies).

6 weeks to move-in. D is doing her running (she’s supposed to be up to 60 miles/week by August). Did her physical; still have to hit BB&B; and having very earnest discussions about whether or not she needs a microwave (I said not).

It’s exciting!

Hello all! Here we are “on the other side!” I enjoy travelling with this group.
Thinking of you MM with all your balls in the air. I am so glad you are pleased with your destination and that your D is doing well.
We got great news yesterday from the College Board. D got six 5s! After her heartbreaking March 30, it has been nice to have some good news lately and to see her self confidence returning. You guys are the only ones aside from immediate family with whom I share her successes. Sincere thanks for sharing my joy and sympathizing with/understanding my sorrows.
The thank you notes are all done, the room is picked up, and we hit the bank today to deposit the merit awards and grad gifts. I get out of work early today :). Happy fourth to all!

I have a question. When I called to get S’s AP scores last night I also requested that they send his scores to his college. Will they automatically send last years scores too? It looks like they will, but I wasn’t sure.

OMG! wow. Congratulations to your D!!!

MM- Your daughter sounds like a peach, she will do better than fine, she will do great. I tell my S that college is a great opportunity to think about what you would like to change and go ahead and do that right from the get go when you get there. Reinvent yourself, no one knows you were different.

^ @ mamom - I had to specifically request Bluejr’s scores from last year be sent. This was a different transaction (read fee) from hearing and sending this year’s scores. First I tried by his SSN which didn’t trigger anything (he probably didn’t put it on the pprwk). Finally I found the booklet from last year and called again, entered that number and then had to verify the school year. I would verify by talking to a customer svc rep.

@ mnmomof2 - That’s amazing! Congratulations to your dd on superior AP scores!! I hope her university takes all of these and she gets the benefit of all her hard work in some wiggle room in her schedule.

The coffee is especially satisfying this morning … here on the other side. :)

Just over eight weeks until move-in for S1. He can check into his room as early as 8:00 a.m. on August 29 …and has to report to football practice for noon!

His classes have been selected, but his roommate assignment and actual class schedule won’t come until mid-August. Housing is based on one of the required classes for newbies, called Freshman Seminar. Apparently, students live in the same dorm/floor/wing as others who select/are assigned to the same Freshman Seminar - total submersion kinda thing.

He is getting excited… finally!

BI- thanks, I was afraid of that. My s also did not put social on test booklet so I guess I call to verify and plan on digging up the ID from last year.

mamom - I’d just call and see if they can locate the scores for your before you totally stress yourself. If you have a good idea where the booklet is, NBD, but I wouldn’t tear the house apart. My guess is they can find them for you if you verify a number of questions. The collegeboard wants to send those scores and get your money… not that I’m cynical or anything. ;)

Good morning all! Iced coffee here this morning in the midst of our “excessive heat” warning. I have a speech to write for the president of our national sorority this morning, so I am going to discipline myself not come back to visit until it’s done! Procrastination has been my middle name on this project.

DS2 and his roommate are headed out this morning by themselves to Mizzou (3 hour drive) to meet their respective Discovery Fellows Research Program mentors. DS2 will wear his “Stand Back. I’m Going To Try Science” T-shirt from ThinkGeek.com to “show that I’m serious.”

“See” you after the dreaded speech is finished.

Good luck OWM. Safe travels to your son and his roommate. I’m sure every time he goes he feels more at home at Mizzou. What a transformation! Btw, my oldest has that t’shirt and I giggle every time he wears it. :)

I have to tell you all that starting this new thread was one of the very first things on my mind when I woke this morning. So I jumped out of bed, made the coffee and posted it. Here I now sit, eating a blueberry muffin (made from yesterday’s blueberry pickings), drinking my coffee and feeling good to be in my new happy place!

I guess I’m going to have to bite the bullet and buy some new XL twin sheets for my son. I found a coupon for Penney’s - http://f.chtah.com/i/2/95827765/welcomemain.html?</a> and it looks like they have a lot of choices on sale. Just have to wait for son to wake up to tell me what color - blue or green or maybe black?? Does black wear okay for sheets? Don’t see any spongebob ones or they would go to the top of the list.

<kinder looks=“” around=“” at=“” the=“” new,=“” awesomely=“” titled=“” parents=“” lounge=“”>
So it is a bit bare bones but I am sure we will make it comfy over the upcoming years. So glad to see those of you that made it here already. I have coffee in hand as I started reading- as I have done most days this year and hope to do for the forseeable future.</kinder>

Good news! H is cleaning out the shed and barn to get rid of things!
Bad news! He asked if we should get rid of the clamshell for the top of the smallish SUV we have (my car is even smaller). I “lovingly” reminded him 1) that D is going to college in 2 months and 2) of the amount of stuff she takes for 1 week vacation- so likely we will be using it on our trips to and from college over the next 4 years.

In other good news I got up to find that D had already located and placed where she could see it, the packet of medical forms needed for college from her medical check-up today. (I had to remind her to make the appt a few times, and made her decide where to keep the paperwork rather than me keep track of it, but then stepped away from the whole process.) Nice to see her step up and get it done.

So here I am, and I’m already behind…haven’t caught up yet, but here we go…there is no way I can keep up with all of you…

D just got her housing; first choice and is totally thrilled…looks like Elon keeps to their word (housing assigned by enrollment deposit)…so far, so good…
