Parents of the HS Class of 2013 - 3.0 to 3.3 GPA

^^^ Congrats! Is that the Salisbury on the Eastern Shore of Maryland?

^Yes. We were pleasantly surprised when we visited Salisbury over the summer. They have put a lot of money into the campus—especially housing & the business school. You get a feeling of energy there (they are included in Princeton Review “Best 3XX Colleges”. I worry a bit about national recognition and we’ll be interested to visit again when campus is full of students.

Great! We went to Ocean City over last Mother’s Day weekend and there were a lot of SU students there for whatever reason. I also recently read the piece in the Princeton Review, so it seems to be on the rise.

Keep the faith as you recover from this terrible tragedy…

Congrats on all the acceptances! What a great week for notifications.

S got the big envelope from university of South Carolina yesterday and he went online to college of charleston and saw that he was accepted. We are very relieved. In the same stack of mail was a deferral from Fordham - they want his 1st semester grades before they make a final decision. It was one of his top choices but he is ok with it. He was starting to hope he would only be accepted to one school because he doesn’t think he can decide! Only four more notifications to go and one isn’t until February.

Another day with no big envelopes (or even small envelopes), no change in status on on-line accounts, no emails, no nothing.

Trying to be patient.

Happy for everyone else who has heard good news.

Regarding Univ of Denver… my daughter did not do a Hyde Interview either. We honestly did not even have the school on our radar until the very end of October. I did a bunch of research to see if I could find any more schools that would have a film major program for my daugher. I talked her into applying at the last minute. Later I realized that the Hyde Interviews were taking place right in our town, but I figured it out a couple of days after the fact. Nov 1st was a whirlwind around our house trying to make EA deadlines.

She did email her admin rep several times because there were some issues with the wrong major posted on her application, and she sent some supplemental materials, so maybe that helped.

Oh, and one more thing… My opinion is that she was accepted because she applied for a small major, not the majors they are known for such as political science or business.

Leacoop. my DS is a senior at CofC. Let know if you have any questions.

Ely–yay on the acceptance! Sound like a good possibility!

Heavylidded–yay for you guys, too! A little $$ sweetens the pot

…and thanks for the suggestion on dealing with family. Sometimes I get sooo wrapped up in girding myself for their reax that I completely forget to just relax and be my naturally enthusiastic self…and let them be whatever they gotta be.

Wow, I just read through the past several pages and there are so many acceptances! Congratulations to all of you (too many to list!). Sorry to those that have received denials or have been deferred. I remember going through the denials with S1 ('11) and it’s really hard to see our kids feel rejected. I know that you will all be posting great news soon though :).

@keli, many people do not understand the huge benefit of a gap year still --ignore them! But you are reminding me that there is a very real issue with sharing our good news with others about our B range student’s admissions experience. We have told people where DD has been accepted (ED) and often get a blank stare in response (“Warren who?”, “I’ve never heard of it”, “where is this college located?”). It’s been a very different experience then when I shared acceptances with my A student son. It says more about a very misguided culture then it does about our kids. I am the type that isn’t bothered by others’ ignorance, lol!

@ConfusedMom–same here. Wanna join me in Walker’s basement over on the regular hs Class of 2013 thread? Lots of drinking and dancing going on there to celebrate/commiserate/wile away the hours of waiting.

jkiwmom – My DD has also been accepted at WW (she applied EA.) She also loves the school but is leaning towards Guilford. Interested in any WW insight you may have.

MyLB-thanks for the invite! I would love go drink and dance in Walker’s basement! ( I am a huge U2 fan so I will bring those tunes) I need it. Another day with nothing! At least my son doesn’t seem to be concerned. I haven’t told him that I check everyday.

SAT scores out tomorrow for the Dec 1st test. Hoping that his scores went up a little (right now 1780 - 640 M 600 CR and 540 WR)

For those 3.0/3.3 students on the West Coast (or out of state), the California State Universities are starting to trickle out some acceptances.

Daughter got accepted to CSU Fullerton for their Television/Film Media program. It’s a safety, but acceptances are nice!

Hi everyone! I popped in to catch up… congratulations on all the acceptances! (((Hugs))) for families with denials and for everyone anxiously waiting.

D was accepted to her ED school! I still can’t believe that apps are done now! Now to try and find scholarship apps to fret over!

Gap years: I think they are a great idea. It would have been great for my B student DS if he could have spent a gap year working, learning some other skills and maturing. Congrats kelijake’s DS!

Yay anniezz!!! Congrats to your D on such a great school! Now what are you going to do with all of your “free time”? ;)

CSU Humboldt sent out emails to many earlier this week.

Am so excited!! SAT scores are out for the Dec 1st test and my son got a 1980! up 200 points!! 660 CR 720 M 600 WR

I am so proud of him!

ConfusedMom -that is so wonderful! What an increase!

Are the PSAT and SAT similar? Son received his PSAT yesterday (56m 70cr 77w) and his SAT today (580m 640cr 640w). He is a little disappointed. Can we think that he has the potential to increase his SAT to the PSAT levels or are they just different tests?

My son actually did better on his PSATs too. He was disappointed when his 1st SATs did not live up to his PSAT scores. I thought they were basically the same test but maybe I am wrong.
