Parents of the HS class of 2014 - 3.0 to 3.3 GPA

Morning all! Sunny and 50 here in the beautiful Pacific NW. I know most of you not on the west coast think it rains every day, but shhhhh…not true. We just let you all think that B-).

D was accepted today to one of her safeties. Although interest to attend there is relatively low, costs with the tuition exchange program may make this the most affordable school of the eight she applied to (including both Pac 12 in-state options).

Now…if we can just get D off the couch today post-finals… 8-|

Congrats to the parents & students.

@LisaK216 - can empathize with the arrival of that first acceptance –
took the edge off for us in a BIG way

@crowlady - nice avatar

@expatCanuck…yes it does! I haven’t seen my D this happy in weeks. She got merit $$ as well.
@momofwon…congrats to you and your D on the acceptance!

We still have 11 (gulp) more schools to hear from. How about everyone else? The waiting is torture!

Thanks @expatcanuck – yours is a perfect visual for your name, too! I had to fiddle with mine a bit so it was visible. It’s from a tile in the NYC subway of all places.

@LisaK216 we are awaiting a decision this week from our state flagship (a competitive one) then seven more after that. So far 1 - 8 - 1 (accepted, pending, rejected). For S16 we’ll definitely be doing more EA!

We have 3 to hear from (one being the state flagship), plus the resolution of a deferral
(not holding my breath there) – and expatSon is threatening to apply to 1 more … . :expressionless:
So, of 10 applications, 4-1-1-1-3 (Accept-Reject-WL-Def-TBD).
If I were to wager, I’d bet on one of the TBD’s as a yes, one as a no, and one too close to call.

have heard from about 7 waiting for 5. Did not qualify for financial aid but got merit for about 4 or 5. The numbers are starting to look a bit better. Ohio State has moved to the top of the list for my S and the OOS Merit puts it on our radar. Worried that it is too big but will travel out there in February to check it out for Fisher Day. Clemson was a first choice but no word from them…yet.

Thread is quiet…feels like we’re all holding our breath waiting for news. I know I am!

Forgot to post here, but this week my S got accepted to our state flagship – and invited to the Scholars program where he would live in a living-learning community. We were not expecting that! Must have been the test scores :-p Wasn’t top of the list – too big and too close – but suddenly it is the one to beat. A lot of his friends were also accepted.

So far, unfolding as expected – the ‘parent’ acceptance email arrived at 7pm.
5-1-1-1-2 (Accept-Reject-WL-Def-TBD). Pretty good for a young man for whom college at all was questionable 2 years ago.

Congrats expat and crowlady on the acceptances and scholars invite!

Getting ready for a big Sunday Super Bow/18th birthday party! Did some major damage today at Costco getting ready to feed 20 hungry HS seniors. They have the most amazing Seahawks sheet cakes. D wanted a Baskin-Robbins ice cream cake until she saw the awesomely decorated football cakes at Costco…customizable to include the birthday and the price can’t be beat. A win-win.

Congrats to all! Acceptance #2 came in today. Only 10 more to go!

Congratulations to '14 parents (and offspring) from a '13 parent! I’ve been checking in every once in awhile and am delighted with all the good news. D is loving her “3.0-3.3” LAC and has been doing well even without the daily oversight of mom! I wish you all the same.

Congratulations to all the acceptances. it is really great to here the news! My son is now 3 for 3 - all safety schools but it is still nice to get the acceptances - the three schools are UNE, UVM and today he heard from Clarkson. I know nothing about the school - any insight?
Clarkson also invited S to apply to the honors program. They accept 30 per year into the program - it might be nice for S to be a big fish in a small pond…however he has to write yet another essay…sigh

I hate to rush things along but I am counting the days to April 1 !

wintriest - glad to here you D is doing well - what school is she at?

@onlyonemom,
She’s at Mills, a women’s college in Oakland, CA (across the country from home).
My friend’s D is just finishing up at Clarkson. She’s a very good student, probably in the honors program. It’s strong in the sciences. I think my friend’s D is majoring in neuroscience. I know she’s been accepted to a grad program.

Hello everyone! I’m fairly new to CC and have posted on a few threads, but only recently discovered this one. This is a great thread! I didn’t initially look at this because of the title. I was starting to become depressed, however, and beginning to wonder how D would fare, after seeing the incredible stats posted elsewhere. Her stats are good, but not perfect. It seems like this is the place for the rest of us. Maybe someone should rename this thread “less than perfect stats or other issues” or “not Ivy bound” so others can find their home on here :)!

I believe that there’s been one of these 3.0-3.3 threads for every year for a while. Since the information is timebound (what was an easier B-student admit 2 years ago may not be now), I’d suggest that it’s best to keep these threads yearly.

(Especially given the recent, well, short-sighted (at best) revisions to the CC layout & functionality, in which links to specific messages within a thread no longer work.)

Actually, ‘short-sighted’ is nowhere near strong enough. CC took a functional, functioning knowledge engine & broke it. Period.
As a knowledge management and user experience professional, it breaks my heart.

Its been ages since I’ve been on CC; got over stressed. DD has been accepted at 3 of her 5 applications. The school that was her number one choice and one she applied to in Aug still has application as pending. :frowning: Due to nerves she decided to apply the a small catholic university closer to us this Jan. and got an acceptance letter yesterday. She says she would like to attend there so we might be done. Thank God.

Now its time to start on her sister who is class of 2017 but 4.0+ student that wants to major in CS or Math (?). Very different child indeed.

@newfaith…I remember you as we spoke about our very similar D14 girls! Congrats on the acceptances! Did your D end up applying to Beloit? Funny that my D who swore she wasn’t interested in a midwest school ended up applying there. No word yet. We’re 2/12 so far. Only 10 schools left to hear from…

She loved Beloit but didn’t apply because she felt it was too expensive. She is pretty serious now about going on to grad school so wanted to save money. Since I first came to CC she has really changed, finishing Junior year with 3.75 gpa and first semester perfect 4.0. The last month or two she has expressed a desire to stay close to home thus the unexpected application to University of St. Thomas. Still waiting to hear from our state flagship but not sure if she wants to go there anymore; the school has had a serious crime problem this school year. There is talk about spending 4.1 million to beef up security but the issue has really upset a lot of students and parents. Will see because if there is one thing I’ve learned in this process; its that this DD always keeps you on you toes.

So happy that a good friend of my DD, who I’ve been helping with the college process, has been accepted to her #1 school – Colorado State Fort Collins. This girl has really turned things around for herself after a not so stellar freshman year and Sophomore 1st semester. We’ve seen her come out of her shell and I’m beyond thrilled for her.
