Parents of the HS class of 2015 - 3.0 to 3.3 GPA

Good morning all!

I have tears in my eyes now…

All the grades should be posted by now but I am afraid of looking anymore after I saw S2 received a C- on his Pre-AP/H Physics and it is worse than last semester (C+). Towards the end of last semester, we had a conference with GC to have the class changed to a regular Physics. S2 insisted that he wanted to stay. We supported him with all the private tutoring he needs. I know he feels bad about himself…

It is what it is. I know everything will work out in the end.

Good tears I hope!

Good morning, hope this week goes well for all. D did do a section in the red book yesterday, and the score was no better or worse since the last time she practice it, in April. So, she has agreed to 2 practice sections a day; plus one whole test.
Testing, is a real PIA in this household.
ACT on Saturday anyone partaking in the fun :))
Grades come out tomorrow or Wednesday…if she did well on exams they should be great; I asked how the tests went and she replied with the wonderful word I have come to hate, FINE. Which means I don’t know, and please don’t ask!

ACT on Saturday here too. He’s doing a full practice test tomorrow and two other review sessions this week. Hopefully he will be done after Saturday. Loads of fun. ;-)

Another ACT on Saturday. D doesn’t have school today (the school year hasn’t ended yet) and DH is also home so in theory, she will do at least two sections in the PR1296 book. I recommended the entire test but we’ll see.

Anyone else have to scramble to find a “spare” graphing calculator minutes before leaving for work and having their child leave for their first-hour math final this morning? Apparently my daughter lost hers several weeks ago but hadn’t needed it–hence the late notice.

I will be glad when this school year is over…only two more days after today!

@sally305 my D on many occasion have ask if I HAD her soccer cleats? Huh? and it usually when were are at least 70 miles from home! 8-}

We are done with school but the craziness hasn’t slowed down just yet!

D15 considered ACTs this weekend, but only briefly. With SATIIs last weekend and finals next week, there just wasn’t any time to study. Her ACT composite is very good, but a wannabe engineer shouldn’t have her lowest score in math. She figures she can raise it if she studies a little this time.

So why aren’t there any standardized tests in the summer? Actually, many parts of the nation do have testing in their summer, after their schools let out. There is always so much going on during the school year and some review needs to be done just before the test.

second go around for ACT for my son too. Hopefully it will be the last.

Best of luck to all the test takers this week!

Pepper-I really like what you said in your post!

S2 is at the summer camp. He is in charge of water front activities. We have a drought here. He texted H and me and said he might not be able to sail due to the shallow water.

Sally305-My son forgets things too. Last June he was not allowed to take SATII because he left his ID at home. Last week I took him to apply for a passport and again he did not have his ID with him. Luckily since he is a minor so it was OK. I worry about these kind of things once he is in college.

Forgetfulness runs in our household (aka ADHD central)!

My husband deals with it by being very methodical—the proactive approach. I deal with it at being very good at finding things and/or improvising and/or relying on the kindness of strangers—the reactive approach.

Unfortunately, so far our kids have not developed expertise at either.

My daughter is extremely organized and prepared-she even brings extra batteries with her in case they are needed! If only she would prep for the tests!

I think you all would really add a lot to the other thread I hope you visit again and think so as well. :)

@Hoosier96 when did your daughter get her concussion-I thought it was this year but reading this thread it seems it was last year? I think you know my daughter got hers in October and it really hurt her second quarter grades-I am happy that she seems to be pretty much back to her old self but it took a long time-she is still playing soccer but the next concussion will be the end of that-she doesn’t even enjoy playing much anymore but wants to stick in out to be a four year V player-I understand that but at the same time I would be more than OK with her hanging up those cleats.

@pepper03 D got her concussion it has been over a year.
She was not cleared to start training until October; 5 months after her initial diagnosis. When she took her PSAT her scores were horrible because she was still symptomatic; but she did not let us know, because she wanted her “old self” back.
Testing and personality continue to plague her but she wouldn’t let on until…
She in her room with tears from a headache.
I don’t know if she will ever be 100% but I am happy with 80-85% return at this time.

Study show that higher achieving concussion sustain kids have a harder time adjusting after sustaining their concussion. It’s because they realize that their brains are not has efficient as they were before the injury. This leads to anxiety and depression and slow healing.

I have become a walking text book on the subject and an advocate to parents that sometimes that slow and steady wins versus up a running.

I am so sorry-my daughter got hers this past October and it really impacted her academically as well-her second quarter grades were by far the lowest she ever had. She is much better but I wonder if she is totally back to full function. Your daughter was hurt playing soccer correct-and she decided not to continue playing if I recall?

My daughter was cleared to play three months after her injury. I wish she stopped playing I just hold my breath she doesn’t get another one and we do have a deal one more and she is done with soccer. There are girls on her team who have had multiple concussions and it is very noticeable that they are different than they were prior to them.

I didn’t know that about high achieving kids having slower healing times in addition to anxiety and depression-the poor kids.

@pepper03 D decided no more soccer. It was her call.
She never did pass the impact test…75-80% from her pre concussion. Memory was poor but reaction time with in normal limits. So neurologist gave her the okay to train.

The newest study released about post concussion syndrome; came to the conclusion that a higher percent of this group have a underling psychologic disturbance, ie: depression, ADHD, anxiety. If you notice all of these have a component of not be able to concentrate and focus?.

It was deemed that even though this was technically her first diagnosis concussion, that more than likely she had sustain one prior to this one due to the presentation and the length of recovery.

Pepper and Hoosier I hope both of your kids continue to improve and feel better.

Thank you @twogirls. My daughter is pretty much back to normal-I do think it was her first based on my reading and just hearing your daughter’s struggle @Hoosier96. I am so sorry she has struggled for so long-it is very hard to watch them struggle and deal with the fallout. I imagine her grades were impacted if my daughters were since she has had a much worse time of it.

She didn’t take her semester finals last spring and the average her quarter grades all if third and mid-quarter of fourth. Problem with my kiddo she has a tendency to only kick in gear after mid quarters so you can guess it wasn’t pretty.
She had a good year after she got theough a rough first 4 weeks of the school year.
