My S has officially been promoted as of yesterday and is now a freshman - I can’t believe my baby is a freshman.

My kids are now classes of '13, '14 and '15, LOL - though the '14 is the college one!

Congratulations, Shilly! I love the synchronicity of the graduations and the fact that you have one and just one every year (and not two in one year, which can be so stressful). You are on the home stretch now!

Tripleamom–Nineteen hours flight time. With the 3 year old? Just shoot me now. We went to Italy with our older two a few weeks ago and MIL came and stayed with little one. I would go through another unmedicated delivery before I would fly that far, my admiration to you!
We did fly a lot when the older two were younger, DVD players with extra batteries helped a lot. One thing you may not think of is those little tubes of candy called Smarties that you can dole out one at a time, they came in handy. Oddly enough, plastic farm animals were a big hit, especially because they never had them or played with them at home. They make a travel Etch a Sketch that filled some time, too. Good luck with the trip!
With regard to Elmo, she liked it a lot, in fact she liked it so much she could not understand why she was not allowed to wriggle under the barrier and join them on stage! It was like restraining a live salmon–I had to take her out of the auditorium not once but twice because she melted down at my preventing her from leaving her seat. Mean mommy! I wish I had had my D15 there to help but she is at camp. Funny enough, she really wanted to go, too!

Wow. Well, we have non-transcontinental travel plans as later today D15 and I will be making the 2.5 hr drive to Smith College for an a capella singing workshop: [The Western Wind](http://www.westernwind.org/smith.htm). We will be staying in Jordan House and working in Sage Hall and Sweeny Auditorium. I did this workshop way back pre-kids but have only vague memories of Smith. Looking forward to a fun mom & daughter weekend.

Wow, this forum has really became busier since I was last on. Fun to see it growing!
Can see that summer will not be as much chance to get in her as I’d like with the family schedule.

D2’s (HS2015) soccer schedule has been nuts, as well as some track and xctry running she’s been doing. The past week and a half as I’m trying to get her somewhere after work “IJustDrive”'s name always pops into my head!

Can’t believe her older sister, D1, will be at college in less than 2 months. Summer goin too fast even tho we’ve not had much summer weather at all–the days still march on.

wordworld, lucky you.Emirates boast to have 1200 channels of entertainment.I think we are going to make the best out of it.I have booked the two seaters ,so we get the extra room from the third seat and he can relax a little and play .D15 doean’t want to spend time around us alot during flight. So hopefully the two seater idea works best.

I will definetly take my toddler to elmo with my D15.She loves it too.

HAGS to all fellow ccers.I am not sure if can visit cc in next few weeks.

We can relate to soccer season! Her competitive year ended on Sunday in the state finals in her division-with her on the sidelines. She got hurt in the semifinal game on Saturday and couldn’t play-the first time in all these years an injury kept her out of a game. She has had to sit out for months at a time due to a growth condition in her knees but this is a first.

Now we get an email this morning that practices for the summer league for the High School start tonight! Four practices in one week-including 7:30 AM on July 4th! She can’t run or kick to she can’t physically participate but she’ll go tonight-they aren’t mandatory and if she doesn’t want to go to any of them I am fine with that too-she is pretty upset right now with the situation. I think it is a bit much as well-I think some down time is very good for the body and mind.

I am not a parent but I am a student in high school and just a word of advice, let your daughter know that getting hurt isn’t going to put her back at all. I’ve been hurt many times from softball including spraining my thumb, getting a line drive hit to my knee cap while I was standing at the pitchers mound, got a foul ball hit to my shoulder and sprained my ankle. Despite all of this and being out for 3-4 weeks (not all at the same time but separately) I was still one of the top players and I was still chosen to be on the all star team. You need to tell her that it’s important to rest her injury and increase her chances of recovering quickly. I know soccer related injuries are much worse so she should just relax besides soccer workouts by me anyway are all summer long so she will get to go. Best of luck, hope she feels better :)

Got S’s grades yesterday and was very pleased - all As and 1 B which for him is a huge improvement over last year and shows he really has turned the corner and taken ownership of his grades. I really think it was visiting his oldest sister’s college and understanding he’d have to work at it if he wanted the chance to go there to.

They also included a copy of his 6th grade photo - wow what a difference these years have made - as my D2 said “then he looked like a baby chub, now he looks all grown up and big” - he grew 8" in middle school!

He’s been working at the pool and hanging with friends so far this summer, we don’t really have anything else planned but that may be a good thing.

Wow - that is really sweet of your school to do!

Thanks Jazzii-I will remind her that it’s important to rest and heal up! :)

Excellent weekend singing at Smith. The campus was very pretty. D15 was turned off by two people begging on the streets of town on Saturday night, but she liked all the shops and didn’t mind the several street musicians. We only spent time in Jordan House dorm, the music building, including the Seely Concert Hall, and a cafeteria. Glad D15 had a chance to stay in what I would consider to be a typical dorm room; it did not quite meet her expectations based on what she’s seen on TV. I guess she forgot the dorm she stayed in at College of the Atlantic…or maybe figured Smith would offer more luxury.

Last Sunday we dropped off D to her CTY camp at Franklin&Marshall college. We found the dorm rooms there are significantly bigger than Johns Hopkins dorm rooms and the dorm rooms we saw in a couple other colleges. D. is sharing a room with another girl. they feel they have so much space!
Their CTY teacher said he was going to cover the whole first year college ancient Greek at a fast pace. So it’ll all be covered in 3 weeks. D. called and told us she’s been learning conjugatinos, and reading Odyssey, (in English, I suppose. :))

We toured in Amish country at Lancaster before sending her off. It was really fun and educational.

@herandhisMom F&M is where I went to undergrad. Lots of building on campus since I was there. Great school. Hope your daughter has fun at CTY!

@tutor, your alma mater really looks beautiful. We were quite impressed. The area is lovely too! D. is having such a great time that she doesn’t even remember calling home. There is such a big change between this year and last year. Last year when she went to CTY, even though she was happy, she called everyday and often times sounded homesick. This year even when she called, (or when hansband and I called), she sounded like there were more important/interesting things than talking to us.

Hi, I am having trouble admitting I have one who belongs here, but DS 2 is class of 2015 and I also dropped him off for 3 wks of CTY last Sunday (Dickinson). It’s his first time and he has called home nearly every day, but sounds like he is having fun, but home sick (don’t know what he misses more - family or computer - ok maybe I don’t want to know). Is it worth having a parent/teacher conference when I pick him up? I had no idea they would offer that, he is taking Ethics.
DS 1 is HS 2013 and DS 3 & 4 are going into 1st grade - not quite pre-school, but closer to that then HS.

Hey Mom24Boys (wow!) –

D’15 will also be at Dickinson, but for the second session. She’s taking physics. Let me know if there’s anything special she’ll need.

@IJustDrive, She should bring an Xlong twin mattress pad, among other things. Last year my D. didn’t have a mattress pad, the bed in JHU’s dorm room was hard! (she said she could feel what was in it…) This year she brought one, the mattress at F&M is really nice and comfy. you never know, so it’s safe to have one.

@Mom24boys, (wow what does 24 stand for???) the parent conference we had last year at the end of CTY was kind of nice, not really informative. CTY instructors then mail home detailed comment letters to the parents about the students after the camp, point out their strength (mostly) and weakness (not much) and further reading suggestions. What I liked about the parent conference is a nice picture of D. and her teacher/TA that she adored. The picture always leads to good memories and stories…

HerandhisMom - Mom24boys means Mom to four sons (sorry, it sounds confusing, but I only have 4 kids not 24). Thanks for the info about CTY, didn’t know they mailed home a comment letter, that makes me feel not guilty if we skip the meeting.
