D has been sending me links and text photos to things she wouldn’t mind getting for Christmas, but we’re suggesting gift cards or money to family. She isn’t working and has some expenses attached to SGA events, plus we’d like her to be able to do things with friends sometimes. Her suggestions are all practical clothes-new boots, new PJ’s, a mid-weather jacket, things like that.
My son is impossible this year. He’s 31-obviously he can buy things himself, but I like to give my older kids gifts. This year he has no suggestions at all, needs no clothes, no tools, nothing for his boat, I’m at a loss. Any ideas?
I still can’t believe thanksgiving is next week. I need gift ideas from all three kids and have none yet. Well D mentioned a few things and is always easiest to shop for. New job so work clothes, etc. will be high on her list. The boys don’t like stuff so more thinking is required there.
The kids ask for gift cards from relatives- and it really is easiest since they all live away and don’t want extra stuff to take back with them.
I love to get experience-related gifts for folks, like memberships to gardens, museums, zoos, or sports tickets, or restaurant or spa gift cards. Or other items that can be used up, like lotion scented like their favorite cologne, or special chocolates, or high-end coffees or teas. And I make infused vodka, candies, and vanilla extract. Other than books for my nieces & nephews and occasional clothes or shoes (I work for a sportswear company), I hardly ever give “stuff.” Hope he that spurs some ideas!
"While taking my break from CC, I did miss out on some of the info in the interim. For example, I just now saw a great post on renter’s/ dorm room insurance and enrolled my d yesterday. "
That’s awesome, @sseamom! I pick up S on Friday or Saturday, then he’s here for 9 days. Other S is home next Monday, then D’s home Thanksgiving Eve! I’m so excited, you’d think I would do something useful like clean the house to get ready for their arrival. Maybe tonight I’ll start…
I go home in 6 days! I know it’s not as a big deal because I’ve been home before but not since Columbus Day and I’m excited to see my family and my dog
Aw! That’s awesome! I’ve been relegated to Saturday pickup, so I guess we aren’t missed enough for after class Friday pick-up! Oh well, extra time for me to freshen up the house a bit.
My D comes home next Wednesday evening and leaves early on Sunday morning. Not a whole lot of time but it will do after that her last exam is on the 14th and she gets to come home for three weeks.
“@sseamom Wow 8 days is like a lifetime!” @labegg - of course you are right (we only get Wed evening through Sunday morning), but when I read your sentence I remembered what it was like to have a newborn and how it felt the same way.
I got to see my daughter the other night because her school’s basketball game was televised, and there she was!
I do not, cannot and will not ever care for basketball, but I have bookmarked the schedule and added ESPN2 to my very small list of channels to flip to.
S gets home late Tuesday night, then heads back Sunday morning. He has a 5 week break starting on 12/17 (exams end on 12/16). Due to a business trip for me I’m actually flying in and picking up a one way rental car to drive him home.
