Welcome back @petrichor11 .
Good to hear,@mstomper!
And thanks, @carolinamom2boys.
“My “slow launch” kid is transferring this fall to the local directional (from the CC) and changing majors from graphic design to geology and physics.”
Somehow, that just seems so fitting being presented by you, @ petrichor11.
Here’s to putting one foot in front of the other. (I simply hear a tune right now…)
@waiting2exhale: welcome to my life. Chaos, disorder, and a constant state of being surprised by nothing.
Seriously, she’ll probably be thirty before she gets her BA, and then there’s grad school. But I guess if she’s in school forever I don’t need to stress over whether she’ll actually talk in a job interview, yeah?
@petrichor11 what you said. Exactly
It’s funny how our thoughts and ideas for what our kids will do in life gets thrown out the window. I have learned to dance a jig while on the spinning wheel. We have jokingly relabeled the chaos to doing “the smarty pants dance” because of all our baarrrilliant new ideas and plans haha!
@mstomper and @petrichor11 , that is wonderful, encouraging news from both of you! I know it allows your mind and heart a little more peace and rest.
It’s a nice circle. When she was very small we were on a field trip to a local museum that had a planetarium. She tried to engage the docent in a longwinded and involved discussion of Pluto’s planetary status (anyone with a kid on the spectrum knows what that entails!).
Fast forward three years to the third grade teacher who convinced her she was terrible at math and science- and all the teachers throughout the years who either reinforced or were aghast at that idea.
So I’m feeling very vindicated on her behalf right now. Eat a bug, Mr. Peterson.
Traveled to an event this weekend where I had the chance to sneak off and take our S and a few of his classmates out for lunch. What a great group (three CS majors, one EE and one Chem). Diverse, articulate, full of life and excited bout their classes and summer plans. Ah to be young again!
Students at S’s school were sent to the basements a little over an hour ago due to a tornado being sighted not far away. S was already in the basement doing laundry, which may be even more unusual than a tornado. They got sent back to rooms after half an hour or so, but it’s still going to be very unsettled there overnight (and here too, for that matter).
I never realized this thread would continue. How wonderful to read the updates. It’s gone way toooooooo fast. DD refuses to allow any graduation talk until her junior year officially ends. Off to NYC for an internship with PWC this summer in June. WAY TOO FAST. Have loved and cherished it all. Now comes #2…class of 2024.
@mstomper read your post yesterday, and then woke up to a tornado warning in our area. D16 came down worried and sat up with me for awhile but all was good. Hope all worked out well for your/your S area.
Speaking of updates, D16 is going to Paris this summer to study mold and fermentation with “wines and cheeses” as a food science major. Really exciting but very bittersweet now with what is currently happening.
@cakeisgreat, there was plenty of wind, but no more tornado activity. The worst that happened at our house was our trash can blowing over. There were some trees blown down in the area, but not in our immediate neighborhood.
DS16 was just offered a summer internship with a tech consulting firm. He’s so excited, but somewhat torn because he has another interview Tues.
Congratulations to your DS @carolinamom2boys ! Do they want an answer today?
@Cheeringsection no he has 10 days to commit.
Yyyeeeyyy @carolinamom2boys!
So happy for him @carolinamom2boys !
S iis going to France (Paris and Normandy) in June. I’m not sure how the itinerary will change, but it surely will.
