@suzy100 - I know what you mean. I am not as stressed as last year but I do check reports and worry that it seems to get harder every year and S21 may have an even harder time finding his place.
I pick up S18 today. He had his last final last night and texted me that he thought it went well. One semester in the books!
BTW - I could not imagine taking a final at 6pm - but for my night owl it was perfect. I only remember having morning and afternoon finals but I guess its hard to find classroom space. A friend told me her S had finals on weekend days too which surprised me.
Both college students home now. Youngest gets almost 6 weeks! Son gets less than 3, but it is his last semester!
Speaking w/ him about flights, shuttles, etc. I asked him if this time went as fast for him as it did for us, and he said yes, it flew by. Wonât be long, we will be attending graduation for him, and DD18 will be through her first year.
Wow, I am getting old way too fast!
@Whistlingal So happy he is home with you! Next time he has a long layover please let us know and we will pick him up for a few hours!!
I got an update today on how this yearâs Senior class did at my Dâs HS. Every single kid who applied ED to a T20 school got deferred. And there were some incredibly impressive kids in that class (winners of various national competitions). Two boys in particular are stunningly smart, as in I think they have the highest native intelligence of anyone Iâve ever met. I really hope they get into a super rigorous program somewhere with brilliant and engaged professors and classmates who will create synergy with them. I think itâs important for those boys personally, but I also think itâs important for us as a society because those 2 boys have the drive and intelligence to create something that will be a positive game-changer for all of us. Gee, I wonder if our GC wrote as strong of a recommendation as I just did here. What a mistake these schools made! I hope when they reevaluate this Spring these schools will realize just how amazing these boys are.
Thanks @amom2girls. Itâs his own fault. AA contacted him in September to say his flight had changed but he didnât read it!!! He only let me know the day before because that was when AA texted him to say he could check in.
I did think of you but thought it would all be too rushed. But as H says if he is going to do any travelling, killing time in an airport becomes part it. (We did WhatsApp him for 30 mins which was nice.)
So for all the learning he has done this past term he still has a way to go!!!
Daughter informs me 4.0 for first semester. Very happy for her.
Merry Christmas Eve to everyone! I hope all of your kids are safely home.
I have has S18 for almost a week and really enjoying the time with him. He is very happy and says he definitely made the right college choice. Such a relief because he really struggled with the final decision. Waiting for grades but he feels like he did well. He says that the only downside is that the food is not very good. He actually lost a couple of pounds and is now eating me out of house and home!
It sure is nice having everyone under one roof at night and not worrying if the cell phone is by my bedside on vibrate when I go to sleep. Itâs the little things! I am tripping over more shoes, picking up more jackets, stray socks and drinking glasses, but I am counting my blessings for sure. I hope you all are, too. Merry Christmas Eve to all!
Happy holidays to everyone!!!
Waiting on grades, but we are so happy that there is no pressure because S18 decided not to go to a school where he got merit aid. Of course, we are hoping/anticipating that his grades will be fine, but itâs nice to have very little pressure. The UCs were not really on his list for most of the application process, but so far, he is happy at UCLA.
S18 finally arrives home Friday night. He is enjoying spending time with his siblings and catching up with his friends. A few of his friends are having a hard time adjusting to college, with one already switching schools for next semester. But S18 seems to be doing fine. He loves FSU, has formed some great friendships, and is doing well academically with a 3.85 first semester. I hope everyone is enjoying their holiday time, and Happy New Year!
Well, Holiday Joy is put on hold for wisdom teeth extraction . . . it was great while it lasted.
Happy New Year to all!
@glido One of our twins needs them removed. Fingers crossed, since the dentist told him two days ago, it looks like he can make it until May! Speedy recovery.
Son returns to college tomorrow after two weeks at home. It was so wonderful to have him home for these two weeks!
From a studentâs perspective, Winter Study is one of the best times of year at Williams⊠but from a parentâs perspective, part of me is temporarily sorry that he did not choose a college with the whole month of January off to spend at home with his parents!
Hope you all are enjoying the time with your 2022 kids! Happy New Year.
Whatâs your sonâs major. My daughter is also at UCLA. sheâs Cognitive Science. Starting to really enjoy it!
DD returns to school this weekend, she has been home a month and is eager to get back to her routine. Classes start Monday 1/6. To be truthful, as much as we have enjoyed the month, I too am ready to get back to my routine.
She and I took a 4 day trip North to Dallas where we spent 4 days at various museums in the area, mostly Art but also the 6th Floor Museum (JFK) and The Perot (Science). The Kimbell Museum of Art was our favorite, we had a great time.
Grades were great, I just paid the spring tuition bill and she is off.
Due to a summer on campus job as an orientation leader, she wonât be home until December 2019
Her task for the next few days: Clean her room!
We will be shipping a few boxes of her stuff as her one carry-on suitcase is not going to cut it.
. . . and sheâs off - back to school!
Wishing everyoneâs DS and DD a wonderful, safe and productive 2nd semester!
S is lying on the couch, wearing an Ithaca sweatshirt and watching something on his computer. His first semester GPA is higher than he ever had in high school or middle school. Heâs been hanging out with his friends a lot, but he went to Rehoboth Beach with us for several days after Christmas. His older brother is returning to college 3 weeks from today after a year and a half hiatus. The nest will be empty now. We wonât have them both at home for more
than a day or so until the end of the semester.
DS headed back to campus tonight.
Enjoyed our time with him over the last three and a half weeks. He had a great first semester experience and was able to start off with a 4.0.
Can tell he was excited to go back, and that is great to see. Misses his friends and independence.
@momtwin, just saw your post about your daughter at UCLA. I think you were asking me about my son? Heâs undeclared social sciences at this point.
