Parents of the HS Class of 2020 (Part 1)

@Cheeringsection Its so nice to see so many comfortable familiar faces in this group. I’m looking forward to the supportive, comforting, educational nature of this group to get me through the next 4 years and beyond. :slight_smile:

I will have 3 rising freshman in a few weeks (2 college, 1 high school). I think the adjustment is going to be hard on all of us. I am excited not to have to be involved in the college app process for a while, 2 in 2 years was very tough for me.

My 2020er is an entirely different animal and I have to be open to things I have never considered before. it is certainly going to be an exciting ride.

Glad to see you too @MuggleMom !

Glad to see you both! @MuggleMom @Cheeringsection

Nothing like old friends! Do we have the energy to do this again @fretfulmother ?

Just found this thread! I have a D20…only child so this is my first and only rodeo!

Welcome @RuralAmerica ! You have plenty of time to learn a lot here.

@fretfulmother @MuggleMom @Cheeringsection

Don’t forget me! Although this is a totally different ball game with my homeschooled LD child this time around. We won’t be dealing with valedictorian speeches and elite schools. CTCL, here we come…

Of course my oldest ended up at a CTCL college anyway!

Checking back in here. It’s been a while. Hi everybody. Welcome @RuralAmerica.

So, D17 has been getting a lot of attention. Need to think a bit about D20. Who knows about this PSAT 8/9? It sounds as though it’s only administered through schools, and if your school doesn’t administer it, you’re OOL. Anyone have any knowledge and/or opinion? Is it a waste?

Since College Board is probably the only entity to benefit from “College Mania Virus” - my guess is that the PSAT 8/9 is meant to propagate same. :wink:

I have not forgotten you @LKnomad !

Nice to see a familiar face @2muchquan!

And so it goes, @Mom2aphysicsgeek!

@Mom2aphysicsgeek @2muchquan
I’m joining with you both in this group, too. D is our 4th and final kid to go through this crazy process! Hello, to any '13, '15, '17 parents who are back in!!

@Felicita Hi! Nice to see you in here, too. '17 is our #5, '20 is #6. She is really not on my radar yet for thinking about college. Just sort of meander in here once and a while.

@LKnomad, sorry for sounding clueless, what is CTLC?

@typiCAmom Colleges that change lives

I sent DS 20, our last, off to the school bus for the first day of summer school.

And so, officially, it begins.

hi everyone. I have a rising HS freshman class of 2020. I appreciate this spot to hang out…thanks for setting it up! I would really prefer talking to other parents than hounding my 2020 with discussions about college at the moment…still a little soon, although this student did attend a variety of college tours with older sibling who was HS class of 2014. Hoping the memory of those tours last and we won’t have to repeat it ALL again…

Welcome @thingamajig ! I too am hoping to have a head start with DD20 since she went on some of DS16’s college tours. She is a very different kid though so searching will still be necessary.

hi 2020 parents. not sure if this ok (promote another CC post here), but I started a thread in parent forum. please take a look and comment in any way you see fit. I am looking for all input! thread is about asking a kid to read “How to be a superstar high school student” by Cal Newport. Interestingly, I learned about Newport right here on CC. Cheers
