hi, yes, i can help you get there if you are interested
just message me.

My kiddo started her sophomore year at UNC a few weeks ago. She’s living off campus again, joined a sorority, and has a 3.9 GPA, so overall things are going well.

Hi,
I’m also interested in the Facebook group for the class of 2020. Thanks

I think you need to have a minimum number of posts in order to message someone. Maybe @chb088 can message you.

A beautifully written tribute to the Class of 2024.

“Nobody can replace what was taken. But we can acknowledge that those who come after you must respect your journey, honor what you experienced, and thank you for keeping the fire going during some cold dark nights.”

That was lovely, thank you for sharing it.

As we now approach our children’s 3rd year of college, I am giving another update. DD spent the fall semester of 2021 virtually for a third semester. It was really rough. She became severely depressed and felt like COVID had taken away every significant moment of her life (no prom, no graduation, no college dorm experience, no new friends (can’t make friends easily on zoom classes where all the students have their cameras turned off). She sought help and I made her apply to the study-away option at Duke for spring. She went there reluctantly but by mid-semester was a changed woman. She disliked her roommate and made her worst grade yet in organic chem, but she met students who also were part of DKU and found ‘her people’ with a group of them. She finally had the college experience she so craved. She spent this summer taking a phlebotomy course and learning how to draw blood and plans to become internationally certified as a phlebotomist. At the beginning of July she found out that she would be able to travel to China and go to DKU in person as part of the first group of international students. She is now in Jiangsu province finishing up her 17 days of quarantine and isolation and will be able to attend classes in person later this week. She had to pack with the expectation of not returning home for 2 years (graduation) due to the COVID situation but she is excited to begin her true college experience in China. I couldn’t be more proud of her.

How’s everyone doing? My D20 had a good junior year, glad to see mostly normal college experience.
(I was surprised that a couple of classes were “Zoom to room” with instructor remote, which allowed health issues to be addressed, I guess.)

D20 doing pretty well; glad to be done with junior year and looking forward to senior year. She spent her junior year abroad and has really enjoyed being able to explore the larger world after those two years of big Covid restrictions.

D20 ended up taking a gap year and decided to start at community college. Things have worked out really well for her. She was just accepted to UCLA and will start there this fall as a junior. She’s also doing a month long study abroad in Italy next month.

This has been a very difficult time for my D20. Her closest friend and roommate died suddenly in an accident a week before the start of spring semester. She really was just going through the motions to get through the semester.

She is home now and headed to the Netherlands for a 6 week study abroad program. I am hopeful the change of scenery does her good.

She has a great year-long internship lined up for next year, and will be moving into a new off-campus apartment with two friends. I can’t believe she’s headed I to senior year already
!

Just checking in as most of our 2020s are getting ready to start senior year! Can’t believe how fast it has gone. D20 has had a great summer internship that got extended, which helped boost her confidence that she was doing a good job. Looking ahead to law school applications and trying to enjoy her final semesters with her friends. Good luck to everyone as we head into the lasts of college and into new adventures!

Sounds like a good summer for your daughter.

My D20 has been in Amsterdam for the past six weeks, she’ll be arriving home this weekend. I can’t wait to see her. She has really enjoyed living in a new city and all that it entails. Was not super happy with all aspects of the study abroad program she went through, but overall it has been a great experience.

She will have a month at home to relax a bit and resume her summer job to start stockpiling some spending money for the upcoming year. We move her into a new off-campus apartment over Labor Day weekend. Can’t believe senior year is upon us.

Sounds like your D has had a good summer too! Enjoy having her home for a bit - our house is much more lively when D20 is home as D24 is much quieter on her own!

Same situation here, though the house has been doubly quiet as D24 is away for a month, as well. Looking forward to a few weeks in August with all my chicks in the coop

I know we don’t see much action on this thread but just wanted to give a heads up to other parents about graduation. If you haven’t already made hotel/restaurant reservations for graduation - you may already be behind.

D20 goes to SLAC in small town. All hotels already booked, families are having to book at places over an hour away at this point. Restaurants already booked out as well. Just something to think about (we are scrambling a bit!).

Thank you for the reminder. D20 has a special restaurant she wants to go to after graduation, so I will make a reservation asap. Good luck making your plans.

Most of the group moved to Facebook. If you want an invite to the 2020 page, message @chb088.
