@TVBingeWatcher2 — YES!! Great news for your D!
I find the discussions about ED really interesting.
My D just mentioned yesterday that she only knows of 1 person at her school that is applying ED. I’m sure there must be more, but she doesn’t know of them. Most are doing EA or REA with plans to visits the top 2-3 schools they receive acceptances from in order to make a decision.
My D had already decided before covid to apply EA since she wanted to apply to international schools and their timelines are different.
I wonder if there is some regional variation?
These ED discussions are very interesting, indeed.
For those hearing a lot of ED, how does it compare to previous years at your kid’s HS?
I do not have a good feel as to whether ED is "up " at D21’s HS or not–most kids aren’t talking much so I cannot compare to the limited info I have on previous yrs. A couple of plans are starting to leak out, but it is minimal. I know my D was one of the few who had done most of her visits by the time Covid shut down everything, so I do think the majority have seen far less campuses than in normal years.
I guess it is not clear to me at all that ED will be any more advantageous this year, and I can’t see picking an ED if one were on the fence and had not visited, though I get why it might make sense for some. If a bunch apply, more than normal, then some schools may have a lower ED acceptance rate.
S21 took it this past saturday and the proctor collected all the phones prior to starting the test. He had a gallon size ziplock bag i had given him to hold his calculator, pencils and admit ticket, he said he just put his phone in that and turned it in.
@TVBingeWatcher2 that’s so awesome! I wish you and D had not had to worry but happy for the great outcome.
Band has resumed here so S21 has all his section leader responsibilities, albeit modified since band activities have been scaled back. He was also selected for our city’s Youth Action Council this year and they are meeting in person, with masks and maintaining social distance.
YAY!!! Congratulations!!! So happy for you all…I was rooting for her!!!
@TVBingeWatcher2 Terrific scores! Wow! Congratulations to your daughter!
@ChillyCow everyone carried a string backpack in to D21’s recent ACT with admission ticket, phone, drink, etc. They requested phones be turned off, and backpacks were kept under their chairs.
@Mwfan1921 Thank you for your response about superscoring. Very helpful!
I’m pretty sure you have to send each score individually.
@TVBingeWatcher2 Congrats to your daughter on her amazing score!
Thank you all!
@TVBingeWatcher2 Congrats to your daughter on her amazing score!
@TVBingeWatcher2 , I’m so pleased for you and your daughter!! I was bummed for her when she missed NMF, even though her SAT score was so high. This is great news!
@TVBingeWatcher2 Hurrah!!!
That will open some doors! I’m so pleased for her! I know how disappointed she was with the PSAT results. How nice to get a quick return on the ACT scores too!
@TVBingeWatcher2 Congrats to your D!!!
@TVBingeWatcher2 , ROLL TIDE!! Welcome to the 36ers club! Whenever our daughter does something that is lacking in common sense or, shall I say, “flighty”, we say, “That’s our little 36”!
Way to go @TVBingeWatcher2 D!!!
So happy for you both!
@TVBingeWatcher2 - congrats to your kiddo!
@2Devils Regaring ED at my kids’ school, I just looked at 5 yrs of data. From what my kids are hearing, there will be more EDs to certain schools this year than in all 5 yrs. I do think their school may be different in that it’s a private school that used to be selective and give out lots of scholarships, but due to finances, now admits many more full pay families, but they’re all very academically focused kids. So, many families don’t need to worry about cost. Once the perceived score barrier was removed, it seems kids are thinking their best chance of a top school is to ED, and what’s the downside?
@havenoidea
very interesting!
we are in public school and while i don’t have the numbers, it definitely seems that less kids are applying ED than in prior years.
cost is one consideration, but not a change from prior years. it appears that for many kids, the inability to do visits has had a big impact. if they haven’t visited all of their schools, they are anxious about committing now and then wishing they had made a different choice. many just haven’t formed the strong feelings for a top choice like kids have done in prior years.
i may have missed this as i joined recently and admittedly skimmed many of the early pages in this forum. do we know why colleges are pushing to fill more ED spots this year than in prior years? have any schools stated a reason?
