Unfortunately, her current top school only has ED or RD options. She will EA to 4 other schools and has 2 in state flagship acceptances already. I wish the “favorite” had EA, but…it is what it is! Hope to have a lot more clarity after our last visits over fall break.
I’m 100% sure I added colleges later 2 years ago. I have a spreadsheet with the dates I submitted them. I think the rep didn’t understand.
I just checked - you can add colleges after you submit to some. I submitted to 3 on Oct 2nd, and I have the option of adding more.
Thank you @MommaLue and @Thorsmom66 and others for the advice on Georgetown app.
To follow up,
- He has not submitted the application. He simply picked the EA option when he created the application.
- He checked the application and it has the option to change the deadline by clicking on the radio button, so he will do that.
A question related to changing the application deadline and interview process –
He has already received interview request from Georgetown. How should he address setting up the interview in this situation once he makes the deadline change? Does he need to communicate to the admissions office and/or the alumnus that he has changed his application round?
Also, does it matter that the school counselor has already submitted her report?
Not sure he needs to do anything about the interview. S24 indicated RD to Georgetown when he submitted his info (hasn’t completed the actual application - just the stuff they made the kids fill out for assigning an interview) and he has an interview scheduled for this weekend so I think they must be scheduling interviews for all students. I don’t think it matters that the counselor has already sent her report - S24 already ordered all his transcripts - most will get to the schools before his actual applications! I don’t think they retiew anything until after the deadline(s) and not until they have everything in hand.
Thank you all for the clarification concerning the CSS profile! It didn’t make much sense at the time.
Haha. My kid still wants to do studio art, but this is kind of why I thought that art school, in addition to being prohibitively expensive, wasn’t a great idea unless the kid is 100% committed to art. My kid is also still working on her personal statement.
This is old but there are some very interesting videos on how kids got in to schools.
Thank you so much.
For the state schools that are now “Automatic acceptance for in-state in the top 10% of their class”, how do you think this will change acceptance rates overall for both IS and OOS applicants. S24 is pretty bummed that two of his top schools (U of SC and UTK) are doing this as of this year’s admission cycle and worried about it drastically reducing acceptance numbers. Thoughts?
I doubt that the auto acceptance for top 10% would change much of anything at those schools… those kids were likely getting accepted at an extremely high rate anyway, if they apply.
Delete - i see @24NoVAMom just said the same thing.
Closing in on 10 days to go for first app due - and, of course, personal statement isn’t final (getting close) and supplementals not even started . . . ahhhhh. Glad I can vent here. Thank god for S24’s outstanding GC - she is meeting with him for the 3rd time today to review his essay. I hope she lights a fire under him!! We are so lucky to have gotten her (she is a former private CC and is super knowledgeable - the level of support she has provided has been tremendous for a public school GC).
This is awesome!
Yes, it is. I realize we are fortunate (and it was luck of the draw). Not all the GC’s are as strong (or experienced).
Is this GC willing to offer only essay support ? DS24 seems to be struggling and does not feel like he has help at this point. Just need a second set of eyes to make sure he is on the right path. Please DM if they are available. Thanks in advance.
Has your son used the CC essay help forum? http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/t/follow-these-instructions-to-get-essay-help/3640959
Unfortunately our GC only provides support to kids that attend our high school. She doesn’t do private college counseling anymore. You might want to take advantage of the CC essay help forum.
S24 got feedback from the CC forum here - it was very helpful. Highly recommend your son try it.
I just stopped after 1600 SAT superscore…
Well, pressure from peers seems to have set in, even for my very independent-minded D24. She came home from school yesterday musing about whether she should apply ED to one of the schools on her list with a 40% ED acceptance rate, 18% RD acceptance rate. Apparently a friend told her she should, and that when friend visited the campus she could really see my daughter there.
Backstory - we visited this school (about 1200 miles and a plane ride away) the summer before junior year with no students on campus, and less than ideal temps of 98+ degrees. She liked it then, but it was never a clear #1, added to her list, taken off her list, then added back on a few weeks ago. Now with kids around her buzzing about their ED apps and hoping to increase their odds of acceptance though ED, she is having thoughts of ED. I said “Is this college your absolute first choice?” “No, but I won’t get in if I apply RD!” I had to say, well you have as good a chance as anyone, and there’s no way I will allow you to apply ED without visiting with students on campus (vibe is everything for this kid, as we saw on a different college trip last week!).
We are really on a time crunch here, and don’t want to fly to visit this school again (or spend the time and money on that trip, it all adds up - airfare, car rental, accommodations, food, etc) so it’s just not going to happen (unless she’s accepted in the spring, those trips I’m happy to do of course). I am really hoping she can get back to her steady state of not listening too much to her classmates, and staying the course with her current plan, but that could be a challenge. Sigh.
