Parents on disability, what can I do?

I was wondering is there any help out there when both of your parents are on disability. My mom had a major lupus crisis and almost died. It left her unable to work ever again. My dad has been on disability for some time now and they got divorced a while back. Are there any financial programs to help? If anyone has information please contact my email, crescenthawk@hotmail.com

If you are referring to the fact that your parents income is affected by their disabilities -- when you file for financial aid, you will input your parents income and assets (only you mother for FAFSA schools and both parents for Profile schools).

Depending on those figures, your family will be expected to pay a certain amount (your EFC or Expected Family Contribution).

This process is the same for everyone -- regardless of disabilities.

I would suggest you input you information in these FA calculators (try both federal methodology and institutional methodology) and see what the colleges would expect your family to pay each year.

use accurate figures to get an accurate answer.

It depends on what kind of income tax form they use. I believe if they use 1040 EZ, their asset is not considered. You maynot have to pay much either.
