could you at least get a summer job between your junior and senior year? at least then it wouldn’t interfere with your school work…it wouldn’t help for AP tests this year but you could at least earn some money for IB tests and app fees.

At least your parents aren’t refusing to pay for college.
My parents aren’t paying for my brother’s college fees.
And they won’t be paying for mine.

Even if you don’t trust the “online survey things”, it’s legal, your parents probably won’t find out, and you’ll get some cash.

Well… my parents are looking to pay minimum for college. But hanana, that sucks.

So… where I can find these surveys… or possibly some coding jobs.

Your parents are ass holes.

Part of having a child is paying finances. If they make 130K and are “broke”, they have some serious spending/saving issues and need to learn what a budget is. This is completely ridiculous. They are being selfish.

Uhg… This just ****es me off and it’s not even my family.

[/rant]

EDIT: Ass holes as one words gets put to asterisks but not ass hole as separate words? Really? CC confuses me.

^ I wouldn’t call his parents that, let’s all be nice here. But IDK, I would really look for getting a summer job or something. I really don’t know what I would do if my parents refused to pay for what I needed (since I am financially dependent on them) apart from getting a job.

Summer camps most likely for me. *… I’m about to be going to George Mason like *.

My parents really got very upset with me for wanting to take the SAT a third time. They basically refused to pay for it, but I convinced them too, so I get where you are.

You need like $40-$50 for the SAT, right? Why don’t you ask your parents here and there for $5 at a time and it’ll quickly add up.

I mean my dad gives me $6 a day for lunch, so what I do is spend only $3-5 on lunch and then pocket the rest. By the end of a week that’s like $5-15.

I don’t get money. At all.

^ Then how do you buy all the necessary things? Or if you need to go out for lunch with a friend? Why don’t you think of a system where they pay you like $10 a month and you can save up for the tests.

My parents refuse to pay for absolutely everything: ECs, summer college programs, prep books, college applications, college board exam fees, act fees, and, oh yeah, college! Together they make $65-75k depending on the economy, so I’m basically screwed up the ass in terms of finances. Their answer to me any time I ask for them to pay for something (and I barely ever ask for anything not school-related): get a job. Oh, but wait - I CAN’T! My parents don’t let me out of the house (their parenting style is about as crappy as their financial management) and I’m basically a maid/nanny/slave at home. I already have a hard time scrounging for money as a high school junior, I’m not sure how I’ll survive college. I’m sure they’ll give me a living allowance comparable to the measly remittances they send home, but that’ll buy me my Ramen and nothing else. And I’ve never even gotten an allowance ever save for a $5 bill every now and then and a couple $100 on birthdays, so I have no savings at all. I don’t even have a college savings fund because my parents think I’ll be going to a dirt-cheap college in the Philippines they could pay for without any qualms. So, I feel for everyone else on here money-deprived. It really sucks to live a semi-normal life but feel utterly impoverished. [sorry for the rant]

^I’d recommend doing super well on the PSAT so you can get a full ride to a state university and not have to listen to your parents.

Sell something. Camera? Extra computer? Bicycle?

@hanana I don’t go out with friends, and all my prep books were with the last of my bday money. I honestly have nothing extra to sell.

Return your Christmas gifts for cash.
